The Hobbywing QuicRun WP 1080 G2 Brushed ESC is a purpose-built 1/10 crawler speed controller designed for drivers who still want the smooth, predictable feel of a brushed motor while gaining much more control over throttle response, drag brake behavior, BEC voltage and low-speed driving characteristics.
Rated at 80A continuous / 400A peak, the QuicRun 1080 G2 supports 2S-3S LiPo power, 540/550-size brushed motors, an adjustable 6V / 7.4V / 8.4V BEC, 15 programmable parameters, real-time drag brake adjustment and Hobbywing's distinctive Real Car Mode.
For rock crawlers, scale trucks and trail rigs where precise low-speed control matters more than outright top speed, the 1080 G2 remains one of the most feature-rich brushed crawler ESCs in the QuicRun lineup.

Built for 1/10 Brushed Rock Crawlers
The QuicRun WP 1080 G2 is not a generic brushed ESC adapted for crawling. Its control logic and programmable parameters are centered around the low-speed behavior that matters in a crawler: initial throttle response, forward force, reverse force, drag brake strength, drag brake rate, neutral range, punch, PWM frequency and freewheeling behavior.
This makes it especially useful for scale crawlers where drivers need the truck to move smoothly at very small throttle inputs, hold position on an incline and transition between climbing, braking and descending without abrupt power changes.
15 Programmable Parameters

The 1080 G2 provides 15 programmable items, giving crawler drivers unusually fine control for a brushed ESC. Adjustments include running mode, battery type, cutoff voltage, initial start force, maximum forward and reverse force, braking, drag brake, neutral range, punch, PWM frequency, BEC voltage and freewheeling.
Programming can be performed with the onboard SET button or through a compatible Hobbywing LED Program Card connected to the dedicated programming port.
Adjustable 6V / 7.4V / 8.4V BEC

Modern crawlers often use increasingly powerful steering servos, so Hobbywing upgraded the BEC substantially for the G2 platform. Output can be selected at 6V, 7.4V or 8.4V, with a rated continuous current of 4A and peak output up to 6A.
This gives builders more flexibility when pairing the ESC with standard-voltage or high-voltage steering servos without automatically requiring a separate external BEC.
Voltage warning: Always confirm the maximum supported voltage of both your receiver and servo before selecting 7.4V or 8.4V.
Lower Operating Temperature

The G2 design improves thermal management compared with the earlier generation. Hobbywing uses copper heat-conductive plates to transfer heat from the MOSFET board toward the CNC-machined aluminum heat sink, helping the ESC maintain more stable temperatures during demanding low-speed crawling.
The chassis also supports additional fan cooling when the installation or driving conditions justify it.
Real-Time Drag Brake Adjustment

One of the most useful G2 crawler features is the ability to adjust drag brake force in real time from the transmitter.
Connect the ESC's orange signal wire to an available AUX channel on the receiver and the driver can change drag brake strength without stopping the vehicle to reconnect a programming card. This is particularly useful when moving between flat trail sections, steep rock sections and downhill terrain where one fixed drag brake setting may not feel ideal everywhere.
Four Running Modes

The QuicRun 1080 G2 supports four driving modes:
- Forward with Brake
- Forward / Reverse with Brake
- Forward / Reverse
- Real Car Mode
For a conventional crawler, Forward / Reverse mode provides immediate direction changes suited to technical rock crawling. Drivers wanting a more scale-style downhill experience can instead experiment with Real Car Mode.
What Is Real Car Mode?

Real Car Mode changes the normal crawler control logic. In this mode, pushing the throttle trigger acts as braking rather than automatically commanding reverse. Motor direction is instead switched through a separate transmitter AUX channel connected to the ESC's white signal wire.
This arrangement is intended to simulate the separate forward/reverse selection and braking behavior of a full-size vehicle and can make controlled downhill driving feel more deliberate.
It is a specialist crawler feature rather than a mode every driver needs, but it is one of the clearest differences between the 1080 G2 and a conventional basic brushed ESC.
Fine-Tune Low-Speed Crawler Feel
Beyond drag brake strength itself, the ESC allows several parameters to work together:
- Initial Start Force controls how strongly the motor responds when leaving neutral.
- Drag Brake Rate controls how quickly drag brake builds toward the selected value.
- Neutral Range can compensate for different radio systems and driver preferences.
- Start Mode / Punch adjusts acceleration from very soft to aggressive.
- PWM Frequency changes the balance between aggressive initial response and smoother operation.
- Freewheeling can improve low-speed linearity and reduce heat in crawler applications.
This combination is why the Hobbywing 1080 G2 is much more than an 80A brushed ESC. Its main advantage is the amount of control it gives the driver over how the crawler responds at very low speed.
Waterproof Design for Trail Use
The QuicRun WP 1080 G2 uses a waterproof design intended for crawler use in wet, dirty and dusty environments. This makes it suitable for typical trail conditions where shallow water, mud, wet rocks and dust are part of normal driving.
Waterproof should not be interpreted as maintenance-free. After wet or muddy operation, clean and dry the ESC and connectors before storage to reduce the chance of corrosion.
Protection Functions
The ESC incorporates several electronic protection functions designed to protect the power system during abnormal operating conditions:
- Low-voltage cutoff protection
- Thermal protection
- Throttle signal loss protection
The programmable LiPo cutoff can be set to Disabled, Auto Low, Auto Medium or Auto High depending on battery capability and the driver's preferred protection threshold.
540 and 550 Brushed Motor Compatibility
The QuicRun WP 1080 G2 is designed around 540 and 550-size brushed crawler motors. It is therefore a natural match for many conventional 1/10 scale crawlers, trail trucks and scale builds that continue to use brushed power systems.
Motor selection should still consider vehicle weight, gearing, tire size and intended terrain. A heavily geared scale rig climbing at low speed creates very different ESC and motor loading from a lightweight trail truck on relatively flat terrain.
2S or 3S LiPo?
Both 2S and 3S LiPo configurations are supported. A 2S setup is often appropriate where smoothness and moderate wheel speed are the priority. A 3S setup provides more available voltage and wheel speed and is also required if you want to select the higher 7.4V or 8.4V BEC settings.
Choose the battery voltage together with motor characteristics and gearing rather than treating more voltage as automatically better.
Programming Compatibility
The QuicRun WP 1080 G2 can be programmed using its onboard SET button or a compatible Hobbywing LED Program Card. The ESC includes a separate programming port so the card does not need to be connected through the normal receiver throttle connection.
According to the supplied specification, LCD G2, LCD Pro, OTA Programmer and WiFi Express programming are not supported for this ESC.

Important Setup Notice
Always calibrate the throttle range before first use. Confirm correct battery polarity before connecting power, and never set the BEC output above the voltage rating of your receiver or steering servo. For safety during calibration and programming, Hobbywing recommends removing the motor pinion or keeping the driven wheels clear of the ground.
