Best Batteries for the ProBoat Jetstream

Best Overall: CNHL Ultra-Thin Racing Series LiHV 6000mAh 4S 120C Hardcase EC5

The Ultra-Thin 6000mAh is the most natural upgrade for owners who want to retain the impact protection of a hardcase battery. At approximately 138 × 47 × 37mm and 479g, it stays close to the footprint expected from the original 5000mAh hardcase format while adding 1000mAh of capacity.

The 37mm case height is particularly useful inside a boat where hatch clearance, power-wire routing and fast tray removal all matter. Its hard outer case is also better aligned with the Jetstream's intended use around shallow water, rocks, banks and small jumps than an unprotected soft pack.

Best for: General Jetstream use, fast battery swaps, mixed cruising and light bashing, and owners who prefer a hardcase battery.

Closest to the Official Capacity: CNHL G+Plus 5000mAh 4S 100C EC5

The G+Plus 5000mAh is the closest electrical match to the manufacturer's basic recommendation. It uses standard 14.8V 4S LiPo chemistry, matches the suggested 5000mAh capacity and provides a 100C continuous rating that comfortably exceeds the stated 50C minimum.

Its dimensions are approximately 146 × 48 × 36mm and its weight is about 560g. Because this is a soft-pack battery rather than the officially suggested hardcase format, it should be secured carefully to the SSL tray. Inspect the pack after hard landings, rock strikes or any event that causes the battery to shift.

Best for: Owners who want standard LiPo charging, the original 5000mAh capacity class and a direct EC5 power connection.

Lightweight Option: CNHL Lightning LiHV 4500mAh 4S 120C EC5

At approximately 398g, the Lightning 4500mAh is the lightest battery in this group. Reducing battery mass can help the Jetstream feel more responsive when accelerating, rotating or skimming across the surface, particularly in relatively clean and shallow water.

The trade-off is lower capacity than the recommended 5000mAh starting point. Runtime will usually be shorter, and its 143 × 31 × 45mm dimensions create a taller, narrower profile than the other choices. Check hatch height and make sure the battery cannot move sideways on the wider SSL tray.

Best for: Shorter sessions, lighter handling and drivers who place agility ahead of maximum runtime.

Best Longer-Runtime Option: CNHL Lightning LiHV 7200mAh 4S 120C EC5

The Lightning 7200mAh combines a relatively low 34mm height with a substantial increase in capacity. Its published dimensions are approximately 145 × 48 × 34mm, and its weight is about 554g—close to the G+Plus 5000mAh pack despite carrying considerably more rated capacity.

This makes it the most attractive longer-runtime candidate in the collection. It may be useful for open cruising, repeated practice runs or areas where returning to shore for frequent battery changes is inconvenient. Actual runtime will not rise in exact proportion to capacity because added battery mass, current, water conditions and throttle use all affect consumption.

Best for: Longer runs without moving to the largest and heaviest battery in the collection.

Maximum-Capacity Option: CNHL Lightning LiHV 8500mAh 4S 120C EC5

The 8500mAh Lightning pack offers the greatest capacity, but it should be treated as a measure-first option rather than the default ProBoat Jetstream battery. It is approximately 146 × 48 × 42mm and 657g, making it both taller and about 100g heavier than the 7200mAh pack.

The added weight can increase hull loading and may change how quickly the boat reaches the surface, rotates or responds in moving water. Its 42mm height also leaves less room for cables and the hatch. Use it only after checking the complete installed fit and confirming that the battery remains firmly retained during jumps and abrupt directional changes.

Best for: Capacity-focused cruising where the measured tray space, hatch clearance and desired hull balance all support the larger pack.

Why Battery Size and Weight Matter in a Jet Boat

The Pro Boat Jetstream does not use an exposed propeller and rudder. Water enters through the intake under the hull, passes through the jet pump and exits through the steerable nozzle. That design lets the boat run across water that would place a conventional propeller at risk, but it also makes intake flow and hull attitude important.

A larger battery may extend usable running time, but extra weight can make the hull sit lower and change how quickly it gets on top of the water. In weed-filled or debris-heavy shallows, a lower-running hull may also place the intake closer to grass, algae and loose material. A clean two-inch-deep channel may be usable, while a deeper area packed with weeds may stop the pump almost immediately.

This is why the biggest battery that physically enters the compartment is not automatically the best ProBoat Jetstream upgrade. The 6000mAh hardcase and 7200mAh soft pack offer a more balanced step up in capacity, while the 8500mAh option is better reserved for owners who have measured the installation and understand the added weight.

EC5 and IC5 Connector Compatibility

The Jetstream uses a hard-mounted IC5-style battery connection that keeps the power lead away from moving components and makes installation easier. A CNHL battery fitted with an EC5 connector is physically compatible with the IC5 power connection, so no plug adapter is normally required.

An EC5 battery is not a Spektrum Smart battery. It supplies normal positive and negative power but does not transmit Smart battery identification, capacity or cell data. The included SLT3 radio system also should not be treated as a live remaining-capacity display, so use a timer and return the boat before the pack is close to low-voltage cutoff.

Important LiHV Charging Guidance

The Ultra-Thin 6000mAh and Lightning 4500mAh, 7200mAh and 8500mAh batteries use LiHV chemistry. A LiHV battery is capable of being charged to 4.35V per cell, or 17.4V for a four-cell pack. However, the stock Jetstream recommendation is a standard 14.8V 4S LiPo, which reaches 16.8V when fully charged.

Charging a LiHV pack to the standard LiPo voltage is acceptable. It simply leaves part of the pack's maximum LiHV capacity unused while keeping the full-charge voltage within the normal 4S LiPo range specified for the boat.

Will a Higher-C Battery Increase Jetstream Top Speed?

A 100C or 120C battery does not force extra current into the boat. The motor and ESC draw the current required by the operating load. A higher-output pack can reduce voltage sag and maintain more consistent response under acceleration, but it does not automatically turn the roughly 20+ mph Jetstream into a high-speed Deep-V.

The Jetstream's performance is better understood in the context of narrow creeks, current, rocks, turns, jumps and reverse-gate maneuvers. Its speed can feel much more intense in confined water than it appears during a straight run across a large, flat pond.

What to Check Before Buying

  • Voltage: Use one 4S pack. Do not substitute a higher-cell-count battery.
  • Connector: Select EC5 or IC5. CNHL EC5 packs physically connect to the IC5 power interface.
  • Dimensions: Measure the tray, side clearance, hatch height and the space required for the power wires.
  • Construction: Hardcase batteries provide more external protection; soft packs require especially secure mounting and inspection.
  • Weight: Higher capacity can change hull balance, planing behavior and shallow-water clearance.
  • Charging: Use a balance charger and select a voltage limit supported by the boat's stock electronics.
  • Recovery: The Jetstream does not self-right. Choose a location where a stopped or inverted boat can be recovered safely.

Pro Boat Jetstream Battery FAQ

What battery does the Pro Boat 1/6 Jetstream use?

Pro Boat recommends one 14.8V 5000mAh 4S 50C hardcase LiPo battery with an EC5 or IC5 connector. Different capacities can be considered when their dimensions, weight and cable layout suit the SSL battery tray.

Can an EC5 battery plug into the Jetstream IC5 connector?

Yes. EC5 and IC5 are physically compatible for normal power delivery. An EC5 battery will not provide Spektrum Smart battery data, but an adapter is not normally needed for the power connection.

Is a hardcase battery required?

A hardcase 5000mAh battery is the manufacturer's stated recommendation and is the preferred format for impact protection. A correctly sized soft pack may be used as a fit candidate, but it must be firmly retained and checked regularly for movement, dents, swelling or other damage.

Can I fully charge a 4S LiHV battery to 17.4V?

Not by default in the stock Jetstream. The listed boat specification confirms standard 4S LiPo operation but does not confirm a 17.4V fully charged LiHV limit. Charge a LiHV pack to 4.20V per cell, or 16.8V total, unless Pro Boat or Spektrum confirms full 4.35V-per-cell compatibility.

Is 7200mAh better than 5000mAh?

The 7200mAh option can provide longer running time, but it is not automatically better for every driver. A 5000mAh pack follows the official capacity more closely, while a larger battery may alter hull balance and throttle response. Choose according to the water, desired runtime and measured battery space.

Does the ProBoat Jetstream self-right?

No. The Jetstream is stable for its wide shape, but it can still invert in rough water, during a jump or after striking an obstacle. Run where the boat can be recovered without entering dangerous current, and return before the battery reaches low-voltage cutoff.
