Avios Extra NG 1600mm Battery Guide – Flight-Tested CNHL Picks

Avios Extra NG 1600mm PNF with CNHL G+Plus 6S 70C LiPo battery on grass before 3D aerobatic flight

With the Avios Extra NG 1600mm (PNF), you can’t hide a soft battery—the airplane tells on you the moment you point it straight up. Our test airframe is the usual setup: SK3 5055-500KV, Aerostar RVS G2 80A, 16×6 prop, SFGs installed. This airframe loves linked figures and clean lines; the pack decides whether those lines still look clean at minute six, not just minute one.

What we actually flew—and what we wanted to know

We rotated three CNHL G+Plus 6S 70C XT90 packs on the same field, same day. Two short shakedowns to check temps, then honest routines. The spec sheet shouts “graphene-enhanced,” sure—but here’s what we really cared about: after five or six minutes, when you punch a vertical, does the throttle still feel crisp or does it go mushy? That’s the question we brought to the field.

4000mAh – the “draw small circles” pack

G+Plus 4000mAh makes the airplane noticeably lighter—you feel it on the very first push. Pitch wakes up, rolls stop on a dime, and harriers settle with less throttle than you expect. The trade is simple: plan your minutes. If you like tight 3D and short taxi times, this one feels right.

5000mAh – the “don’t overthink it” pack

G+Plus 5000mAh sits on the CG marks without drama. Uplines hold their shape, re-entries don’t feel hollow, and you get enough minutes to finish a full pattern plus a couple of toys. If someone asks for one size to start with on the Extra NG, this is the answer we give and sleep fine.

6000mAh – the “keep the line” pack

G+Plus 6000mAh adds time and calms the airplane when the breeze gets messy. Knife-edge tracks stop wandering, and long uplines stop wilting at the top. Yes, the snap in violent tumbles softens a touch—but on gusty days you’ll feel the extra stability and it’s worth it.

Stick feel, not slogans

Rolling circles: 4000 tightens the diameter without chasing the throttle; 6000 wants a steadier hand and pays you back with smooth arcs.
Knife-edge loops: SFGs keep it honest; with G+Plus cells the top doesn’t sag, so you fly the loop instead of babysitting it.
Waterfalls / tumbles: 5000 and 6000 keep the shove on exit; 4000 trades that shove for faster rotation.
Harriers: lighter feels “floaty,” heavier feels “locked in.” Pick your day.

Setup that saved us time

  1. Check CG after the canopy is latched. The pack shifts a hair when it’s strapped—set, latch, then slide a few mm to clean up the downline.
  2. Calibrate the ESC throttle. Makes partial-throttle harriers less twitchy and keeps climbs linear.
  3. One connector standard. XT90 everywhere. Adapters add heat and hide small problems until they aren’t small.
  4. Two short flights first. Touch the motor and ESC, then open it up. Boring, but it keeps days fun.
  5. Real anti-slip under the pack. The NG’s tumbles will find any slack. Velcro plus a pad—done.

However you found us, it’s the same airplane

No matter whether you searched “extra ng rc plane,” “extra ng aircraft,” “Extra300,” “extra 300 ng,” “Extra 330 NG,” or even “AEIO 580 B1A” to cross-check specs—you’re after the same thing: an Extra NG that still hits hard near the end of the flight, not just at the start.

Pick the pack that fits the day you want to fly, take two short sorties to check temps, then start drawing bigger shapes. The Extra NG won’t make you guess if you chose well; it’ll show you on the first upline. You can see all our recommended packs in the LiPo Battery Collection for Avios Extra NG / Extra 300 NG 60E.
