Quick Fit Check

The CNHL Lightning LiHV 7200mAh 22.8V 6S 120C battery with EC5 plug combines 7200mAh of rated capacity with an unusually compact and lightweight 6S format. At approximately 800g and 149 × 52 × 50mm, it remains close to the size and weight class of many conventional 6000mAh 6S LiPo batteries while providing 20% more rated capacity.

This high capacity-to-weight ratio makes the pack especially useful for large EDF jets and RC airplanes that need more usable energy but cannot comfortably carry the size and mass of a conventional heavy 7200mAh battery. It has also received positive customer-verified fitment feedback in the FMS J-11 Twin 70mm EDF Jet.

Before purchasing for another model, confirm the 149 × 52 × 50mm battery space, approximately 800g installed weight, EC5 connection, battery retention, ESC maximum input voltage and final center of gravity. For a 12S system, two identical packs must be connected through a correctly rated series harness.

7200mAh Capacity in a Conventional 6000mAh-Class Format

The main advantage of this CNHL Lightning battery is not capacity alone. Its value comes from placing 7200mAh into a battery format close to the weight and dimensions of many ordinary 6000mAh 6S LiPo packs.

Moving from 6000mAh to 7200mAh provides an additional 1200mAh, equal to a 20% increase in rated capacity. In an efficiently matched aircraft or vehicle, this can provide more usable runtime, a larger landing reserve and stronger energy availability later in the flight or run.

A conventional 7200mAh battery may be too large or heavy for models designed around the 5000–6000mAh class. At approximately 800g, this Lightning pack makes the capacity upgrade practical for more weight-sensitive EDF and fixed-wing applications.

Why Choose This Battery?

High capacity-to-weight performance

The 7200mAh capacity is paired with an approximately 800g installed weight. This makes it a strong option for pilots who want more energy than a conventional 6000mAh pack without moving to a substantially heavier high-capacity battery.

More capacity with a manageable installation footprint

The 149 × 52 × 50mm dimensions help the battery remain usable in compartments designed around conventional large 6S packs. Battery-bay dimensions, hatch clearance, straps and wire routing must still be checked for each model.

Strong output for EDF and high-current systems

The 120C continuous and 240C burst ratings, EC5 connector and 10AWG wiring are designed for demanding power systems where repeated high-throttle current and voltage stability matter.

Useful as either a single 6S pack or a matched 12S pair

One pack can power a compatible 6S model. Two identical packs may be connected in series to create a 12S 7200mAh system for larger EDF jets and aircraft designed specifically for 12S operation.

FMS J-11 Twin 70mm EDF Battery Fit

The CNHL Lightning LiHV 7200mAh 6S 120C battery with EC5 plug fit for the FMS J-11 Twin 70mm EDF Jet. Its 149 × 52 × 50mm dimensions and approximately 800g weight remain close to the conventional 6000mAh battery class commonly used in this aircraft.

This gives the J-11 7200mAh of rated capacity, or 20% more than a 6000mAh pack, without the excessive size and weight normally associated with a conventional 7200mAh battery. The EC5 plug connects to the aircraft's stock EC5 power system without an adapter.

Secure the battery firmly and confirm the final center of gravity before flight, especially after changing the battery position, external stores or onboard equipment.

Matched 12S Battery Pair for Large EDF Jets

Two identical CNHL Lightning 7200mAh 6S batteries connected through a correctly rated series harness create a 12S 7200mAh LiHV system.

Series wiring doubles the voltage while capacity remains unchanged. Two 6S 7200mAh batteries in series do not become 12S 14400mAh. The combined battery weight is approximately 1600g before the series harness and additional wiring are included.

Both batteries should be the same model, capacity, connector type, age and condition, with similar internal resistance and the same charge level before connection. Do not mix this pack with a different capacity, chemistry or battery model in a series power system.

High-Capacity 12S Option for the Black Horse P-80 Shooting Star

A matched pair of CNHL Lightning LiHV 7200mAh 6S 120C batteries can be considered for a 12S electric setup in the Black Horse P-80 Shooting Star 120mm EDF.

Compared with a paired 6000mAh setup, the 7200mAh pair provides 20% more rated capacity. The Lightning construction helps limit the weight increase that would normally be associated with moving to conventional 7200mAh batteries.

Before installation, confirm the dimensions and placement of both packs, correctly rated series harness, connector clearance, final center of gravity, total takeoff weight, ESC maximum input voltage, cooling, takeoff roll and landing behavior.

Compatible RC Models and Applications

Large 6S EDF Jets

The lightweight 7200mAh format is particularly useful in EDF jets that need more capacity than a conventional 5000mAh or 6000mAh battery but remain sensitive to installed weight and battery-bay dimensions.

High-Power RC Airplanes

Large sport, scale and aerobatic aircraft may benefit from the additional capacity and strong discharge capability. Check center of gravity, takeoff weight, propeller current, ESC limits, battery retention and landing behavior.

RC Helicopters

The pack may be suitable for helicopters designed around an 800g-class 6S battery. Confirm frame clearance, strap position, motor KV, ESC rating, head speed and final aircraft balance.

Paired 12S Aircraft

Two matched packs can support large 12S EDF or propeller-driven aircraft when the complete power system is designed for 12S voltage and the airframe can safely accommodate approximately 1600g of battery weight.

High-Power 6S RC Platforms

The battery may also be used in compatible high-current electric models that can accommodate its dimensions, weight and EC5 connector. Check the complete mechanical and electrical installation rather than relying on voltage alone.

EC5 and IC5 Physical Compatibility

EC5 and IC5 are physically compatible at the main power connection. The EC5 battery plug can connect to a corresponding IC5 device connector when the polarity and connector orientation are correct.

This CNHL battery is not a Spektrum Smart battery. It supplies normal positive and negative main power through its EC5 connector but does not include the Smart data connection or electronics used to transmit battery information.

When this EC5 battery is used with an IC5-equipped model or ESC, the main power system can operate normally, but Smart battery identification, automatic battery data and related Smart telemetry will not be available.

Depending on the charger, the user may need to select the LiHV chemistry, six-cell count, charge current and voltage manually. Confirm the charger setup before starting.

About the CNHL Lightning LiHV Series

The CNHL Lightning LiHV Series is designed for high discharge performance, stable output under load and strong capacity-to-weight efficiency.

The 7200mAh 6S model demonstrates that design direction by providing more capacity than a conventional 6000mAh pack while remaining within a practical approximately 800g installation class.

FAQ

Does this battery fit the FMS J-11 Twin 70mm EDF?

Yes. A customer has successfully installed and flown this battery in the FMS J-11 and reported excellent fitment, balance and performance. Its approximately 800g weight and compact dimensions keep it close to the conventional 6000mAh battery class while providing 7200mAh capacity.

Why use 7200mAh instead of 6000mAh?

The 7200mAh pack provides 1200mAh more rated capacity, equal to a 20% increase. The Lightning design delivers this additional capacity without the size and weight normally expected from a conventional heavy 7200mAh battery.

Is this a heavy conventional 7200mAh battery?

No. Its main advantage is its high capacity-to-weight ratio. At approximately 800g, it remains close to the weight class of many conventional 6000mAh 6S batteries.

Can two packs be used for a 12S EDF setup?

Yes. Two identical 6S 7200mAh packs connected through a correctly rated series harness create a 12S 7200mAh system. Series wiring doubles voltage while capacity remains unchanged.

Is EC5 physically compatible with IC5?

Yes. EC5 and IC5 are physically compatible at the main power connection. This EC5 battery can provide normal power through a corresponding IC5 connector, but it does not include Smart battery electronics or Smart data communication.

Can the battery be charged as a standard LiPo?

Yes. It can be balance charged within standard LiPo voltage limits. Charging to the higher LiHV limit requires a charger with a dedicated LiHV mode and an ESC that supports the maximum voltage of a fully charged 6S LiHV battery.

Is the maximum 5C charge rate required?

No. The 5C figure is the specified maximum rather than the required everyday rate. A lower balanced charge rate generally produces less heat and places less stress on the battery.

Notice

  • This is a LiHV battery. Use LiHV charging mode only with a charger designed to support LiHV batteries.
  • When charging in LiHV mode, stop charging immediately if any cell exceeds 4.35V.
  • If charging as a standard LiPo battery, do not exceed standard LiPo voltage limits.
  • Before using a fully charged LiHV pack, confirm the ESC's maximum input voltage. A “6S” rating alone does not confirm support for the full voltage of a 6S LiHV battery.
  • Always use balance charging and select the correct six-cell battery mode before starting.
  • EC5 and IC5 are physically compatible at the main power connection, but this battery does not provide Spektrum Smart battery data.
  • Confirm connector polarity, current rating, wire clearance and charger settings before use.
  • Confirm the battery dimensions, installed weight, center of gravity, retention and cooling before operating the model.
  • For series use, connect only two identical packs with the same model, capacity, connector, age, condition, internal-resistance range and charge level.
  • Use a correctly rated series harness. Do not substitute a parallel harness or an improvised connection.
  • Inspect the battery surface, EC5 connector, wires, balance lead and individual cell voltages before use.
  • Do not use a swollen, punctured, overheated or otherwise damaged battery.
  • Never charge the battery unattended or near flammable materials.
  • Charge, store and transport the battery in an appropriate fire-resistant environment.
  • Allow the battery to cool before recharging. Do not charge a battery that is still hot from use.
  • Do not over-discharge the battery. Stop operation when low-voltage protection activates or performance drops noticeably.
  • Use the charger's storage function when the battery will not be used for an extended period.
  • Protect the battery terminals during storage and transport to prevent short circuits.
  • If a new battery does not initially deliver full performance, several normal balanced charge and discharge cycles may help stabilize the cells.
