How to choose a LiPo battery for Redcat RC cars

Redcat RC cars cover a wide range of platforms, so there is no single battery size that fits every model. A Redcat crawler, lowrider, mini truck, monster truck, and 1/8 basher may all use different battery voltages, case sizes, connectors, and weight ranges. This page is designed as a parent Redcat battery guide, helping owners narrow the correct battery direction before moving into a model-specific collection.

For most Redcat vehicles, the first step is to confirm three things: the ESC voltage rating, the battery tray size, and the factory connector. Some Redcat models use compact 2S or 3S packs, while larger performance platforms may require 4S or 6S LiPo batteries. Connector types can also vary, so it is worth checking whether your vehicle uses XT60, Deans/T-plug, EC3/IC3, EC5/IC5, or another plug before ordering.

Typical Redcat battery voltage and capacity ranges

Redcat vehicle type Common voltage Common capacity Battery notes
Micro crawler / compact trail truck 2S to 3S 800mAh to 2200mAh Small size and low weight matter more than high capacity.
1/10 crawler / scale trail rig 2S to 3S 2200mAh to 5200mAh Choose based on tray size, runtime needs, and front/rear weight balance.
Lowrider / hopping / bed dancer 2S to 3S 2200mAh to 5000mAh Compact packs are usually better because battery weight affects movement and balance.
1/10 basher / monster truck 2S to 4S 5000mAh to 8000mAh Higher capacity and higher discharge rate are useful for longer runtime and stronger punch.
Large Redcat platform 4S to 6S 5000mAh to 8000mAh+ Check ESC rating, connector, and tray length before choosing a high-power pack.

2S and 3S Redcat batteries

Many Redcat crawlers, scale trucks, lowriders, and compact RC cars run best on 2S or 3S LiPo batteries. A 2S pack usually gives smoother throttle control, lower stress, and a more scale driving feel. A 3S pack adds stronger wheel speed, sharper throttle response, and more power for outdoor driving.

For Redcat scale models and lowrider-style vehicles, bigger is not always better. A lighter 2200mAh to 3600mAh battery can make the vehicle feel more natural, especially when the platform depends on balance, suspension movement, or bed articulation. For trail trucks and crawlers, a 3200mAh to 5200mAh pack can offer a good balance between runtime and weight.

4S and 6S Redcat batteries

Larger Redcat vehicles and higher-power platforms may use 4S or 6S LiPo batteries. These setups need more attention to ESC rating, discharge rate, connector size, and battery tray space. A 4S or 6S battery is not a universal upgrade for every Redcat vehicle. It should only be used when the factory electronics and drivetrain are designed for that voltage.

For high-power Redcat setups, CNHL hardcase LiPo batteries in the 5000mAh to 8000mAh range are usually the most practical direction. EC5/IC5 and XT90-style connectors are common on larger high-current RC platforms, while smaller Redcat models may use XT60, Deans/T-plug, EC3/IC3, or model-specific connectors.

Redcat battery connector notes

Redcat battery connectors are not the same across every model. Some compact platforms use XT60 or Deans/T-plug style connections, while larger performance models may use EC5/IC5 or XT90-style plugs. EC3 and IC3 should also be considered when working with smaller 2S and 3S systems, but physical connector compatibility should always be confirmed before ordering.

If your CNHL battery has the correct voltage and dimensions but a different plug, an adapter may be possible in some setups. However, direct plug-in fit is usually cleaner, safer, and easier to manage inside a tight chassis. For compact Redcat models, connector size and wire exit can matter almost as much as the battery case dimensions.

Use model-specific Redcat battery pages when available

This page is a broad Redcat RC battery collection. For the best fit, it is better to use a dedicated model page when one is available. Model-specific collections can account for tray size, factory ESC voltage, plug type, and real installation space more accurately than a general Redcat battery page.

FAQ

What battery do Redcat RC cars use?

Redcat RC cars commonly use 2S, 3S, 4S, or 6S LiPo batteries depending on the model. Smaller crawlers and lowriders often use 2S or 3S, while larger bashers and high-power platforms may use 4S or 6S.

What capacity battery is best for Redcat RC cars?

Compact Redcat models often work well with 1500mAh to 3600mAh packs. 1/10 crawlers and trail trucks often use 2200mAh to 5200mAh packs. Larger bashers and performance vehicles may use 5000mAh to 8000mAh or higher, depending on tray size and ESC rating.

Can I use a 3S LiPo in my Redcat?

Only if your Redcat model’s ESC and drivetrain are rated for 3S. Many Redcat vehicles support 3S, but not all of them do. Always check the manual before switching from 2S to 3S.

Are Redcat battery connectors all the same?

No. Redcat vehicles can use different connectors depending on the platform. XT60, Deans/T-plug, EC3/IC3, EC5/IC5, and XT90-style connectors may appear across different RC setups. Always check the connector on your own vehicle before ordering.

Should I choose the largest Redcat battery possible?

Not always. Larger batteries can increase runtime, but they also add weight and may not fit cleanly. For crawlers, lowriders, and compact platforms, balance and fit can be more important than maximum capacity.
