Take the CNHL Bison XT STOL 1750mm beyond grass and dirt with the Float Set. This model-specific accessory converts the Bison from its standard wheeled configuration into a water-capable STOL aircraft for takeoffs, touch-and-go practice, and landings on suitable ponds and lakes.

The twin-float layout is matched to the Bison airframe and uses dedicated metal mounting struts and a steerable water-rudder system. Once installed and correctly balanced, the large-wing Bison retains the slow-flight character that makes it enjoyable as a bush plane while opening up an entirely different style of flying.

Made for the CNHL Bison XT STOL 1750mm

OZBN008 is designed specifically around the mounting points and geometry of the CNHL Bison XT STOL 1750mm. The supplied strut system replaces the standard main landing gear arrangement and positions the floats correctly beneath the fuselage for water operation.

  • Compatible aircraft: CNHL Bison XT STOL 1750mm
  • Accessory type: Twin-float seaplane conversion set
  • Stock number: OZBN008
  • Primary use: Water takeoff, landing and taxi operation

Steerable Water Rudder for Better Taxi Control

Water handling matters before the airplane ever leaves the surface. The Bison float system incorporates a steerable water-rudder setup so rudder input can also help control direction while taxiing and lining up for takeoff.

The water-rudder control is connected through the aircraft's rudder channel, allowing the air rudder and water steering system to work together once the float installation and receiver connections are completed.

What Changes When You Fly the Bison on Floats?

Floats add both drag and weight below and behind the normal wheeled setup, so the airplane should be treated as a new configuration rather than simply bolting the floats on and flying with the old settings.

In practical water flying, the Bison's large wing provides plenty of lift and the added float drag helps the aircraft slow down well on approach. The standard 6S power system also provides useful thrust for getting the floats onto step and breaking free from the water.

The most important change is center of gravity. Installing floats can make the aircraft more tail-heavy, so the flight battery may need to be moved farther forward than in the standard wheel configuration. Always balance the aircraft again before the first water flight rather than assuming your land-based battery position will still be correct.

Installation Notes

  • Remove the standard main landing gear before installing the float assembly.
  • Install the front and rear float struts in their correct positions and orientation.
  • Secure all mounting hardware before connecting the water-rudder control.
  • Route the water-rudder servo lead carefully and keep wiring clear of moving parts.
  • Reconnect the rudder system and verify correct steering direction before entering the water.
  • Re-check the aircraft CG with the flight battery installed after the float conversion.

A short taxi test is recommended before the first takeoff. Confirm that the aircraft tracks properly, the water rudder responds in the correct direction, and both floats sit evenly on the water.

What Is Included?

  • 2 × Bison float bodies
  • Model-specific metal mounting struts and support rods
  • Water-rudder system and related installation hardware
  • Mounting hardware for the float conversion

Aircraft, flight battery, receiver, transmitter and charger are not included.

Complete Your Bison Setup

If you are starting with the complete aircraft, see the CNHL Bison XT STOL 1750mm PNP RC Airplane for the full airframe, power-system and setup details.

For other replacement airframe components and Bison-specific parts, browse the CNHL Bison XT STOL spare parts collection.

Because float installation changes aircraft balance, battery choice and placement become especially important. Compare compatible packs in our 6S batteries for CNHL Bison XT STOL collection.

Important Water-Flying Check

Before every water session, inspect the floats, struts, mounting screws, steering linkage and wiring. Confirm that the aircraft is correctly balanced in its float configuration and choose a sufficiently large, clear body of water with enough room for takeoff, landing and recovery.
