Ovonic vs CNHL LiPo Batteries: Real-World Test, Honest Comparison, Surprising Winner

Introduction: Real-World Use Over Spec Sheets

We usually don’t review batteries. They’re either good or bad — sometimes you get lucky, sometimes not. But we bought two packs from Ovonic, a 6S 5500mAh and a 4S 6500mAh, and we decided to put them through 10 full cycles before saying anything.

Here’s our honest take: they performed better than we expected. But to give this context, we compared them side-by-side with similar CNHL LiPo batteries, which We’ve used over 1 year. So, which one should you go for?

Crash Test & Build Quality: Ovonic Survived the Worst

One of the Ovonic packs took a full-speed RC car crash that literally bent the chassis. While the shrink wrap tore a bit, the cells remained undamaged and showed no puffing. That’s impressive. We slapped some tape on it and kept running.

Form Factor: Compact Wins (But So Does Fit)

The 6S Ovonic is actually longer (but slimmer) than most 6S packs We’ve used. It fits ARRMA Typhon, Corally Spark, and even tighter 1/8 scale setups.

For reference, the dimensions come in at ~16cm (L) × 4.6cm (W) × 4.6cm (H). CNHL’s G Plus 6S is slightly smaller, and often offers a bit more runtime and punch.

Discharge & Runtime: Close, But CNHL Holds Edge

During full-throttle bashing, We got about 15 minutes from the Ovonic 6S pack — what we'd expect from a 5500mAh battery. CNHL’s 5000mAh packs, under similar conditions, gave me closer to 18–22 minutes.

The 4S Ovonic 6500mAh really surprised us. We ran it in 2WD buggy for 20 minutes on a BMX track and still had ~3.7V per cell when we checked. That's serious longevity.(Very close to CNHL's G plus 5000mah)

Internal Resistance: Ovonic vs CNHL

Ovonic cells stayed below 6mΩ, with slight variation per cell. CNHL packs, in our experience, are usually a bit more consistent across cells(below 5mΩ). But both stayed cool and stable under load.

Nice Touch: Ovonic Balance Plug Protector

One thing we did like on the Ovonic packs was the small plastic guard over the balance lead. It’s a small touch, but adds protection from pinching or pulling. CNHL has similar features on newer series like the Black Series.

Customer Support: CNHL Has the Track Record

We can't speak to Ovonic’s customer service directly since we didn’t need to use it. But we’ve had cells go bad on arrival with other brands before — and CNHL’s support team has always replaced without hassle. That gives us peace of mind.

Final Verdict: Both Solid, But CNHL Is More Consistent

  • Ovonic: Great runtime
  • CNHL: Better consistency, trusted support, powerful discharge, good value
