The Hobbywing QUICRUN WP 12BL45 G2 is a waterproof 45A brushless ESC developed for suitable 1/12 and 1/14 scale RC cars. It supports 2S and 3S LiPo power and is designed for on-road cars, off-road vehicles, short course trucks and compact monster trucks.
Intelligent freewheeling technology helps improve drive efficiency and control operating temperature during extended use, while the selectable 6V/7.4V high-power BEC provides stronger support for compatible steering servos and receiver electronics.
This is a sensorless brushless ESC. A sensored brushless motor may be connected, but it will operate in sensorless mode because the ESC does not use the motor sensor cable. It is not compatible with brushed motors.

Why Choose the QUICRUN WP 12BL45 G2?
Provides 45A continuous and 200A peak current for suitable 1/12 and 1/14 brushless RC vehicles.
Improves electrical efficiency and helps control temperature during prolonged operation.
Selectable 6V/7.4V output provides stronger support for compatible steering servos.
Designed for normal RC use around splashes, rain, dust, sand and mud.
Connect a compatible program box without unplugging the receiver throttle cable.
The independent port may also power a compatible external cooling fan.
Intelligent Freewheeling for Lower Heat
The QUICRUN WP 12BL45 G2 uses intelligent freewheeling technology to improve drive efficiency and reduce unnecessary electrical loss during operation. This helps control ESC temperature and maintain more stable output during longer runs or sustained high-load driving.
This technology does not replace correct power-system setup. Motor KV, gearing, tire diameter, vehicle weight, drivetrain resistance, ambient temperature and driving style still affect motor and ESC temperature.
Built-In 6V/7.4V High-Power BEC
The internal BEC provides 4A continuous current and up to 7A maximum output. Its voltage can be switched between 6V and 7.4V to suit different receiver and steering-servo requirements.
Use for standard-voltage receivers, steering servos and accessories that are not rated for direct 7.4V input.
Use only when every receiver-powered component supports high-voltage operation.
Important: check the maximum operating voltage of the receiver, steering servo and every connected accessory before selecting 7.4V. An excessive BEC voltage can damage the electronics.
IP67-Rated Protection
The sealed ESC design carries an IP67 protection rating under normal operating conditions. It is designed to resist common outdoor RC exposure involving splashes, rain, dust, sand and mud.
IP67 does not mean that the ESC should remain underwater. Do not intentionally submerge it for extended periods. After wet or muddy use, disconnect the battery, remove dirt and allow the electronics to dry completely before storage.
Water and dust resistance are not permanent. Impact damage, worn seals, damaged wires and normal aging can reduce the level of protection over time.
Choosing a 2S or 3S Motor Setup
| Battery | Recommended Motor Limit | Typical Direction | Important Check |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2S LiPo | KV ≤ 6000 | Responsive general-purpose setup for suitable small-scale RC vehicles | Check gearing, motor temperature, tire diameter and total vehicle load. |
| 3S LiPo | KV ≤ 4000, normally 28XX motor size | Higher-speed setup using a motor specifically rated for 3S | Do not move a high-KV 2S motor directly into a 3S setup. |
| 6-9 Cell NiMH | Selected according to actual pack voltage and vehicle load | Vehicles that continue to use NiMH battery packs | Configure the low-voltage protection correctly for NiMH use. |
Designed to Pair with QUICRUN 2840/2850 SL G2 Motors
The WP 12BL45 G2 is designed to pair with suitable Hobbywing QUICRUN 2840 and 2850 SL G2 brushless motors. Matching the ESC and motor within the same power-system family can simplify connector compatibility and provide a more balanced starting point for small-scale RC builds.
The exact motor still depends on the vehicle. A 2840 motor is generally better suited to lighter 1/14 and selected smaller platforms, while a 2850 motor provides a more appropriate direction for many 1/12 and 1/14 applications.
Always confirm motor KV, battery voltage, motor dimensions, shaft size, gearing, mounting pattern and available chassis space before ordering.
Suitable for 1/12 and 1/14 RC Vehicles
The QUICRUN WP 12BL45 G2 is intended for suitable recreational 1/12 and 1/14 scale platforms, including:
- 1/12 and 1/14 on-road RC cars
- Small-scale off-road vehicles
- Compact short course trucks
- Compact monster trucks
- Suitable brushed-to-brushless conversion projects
Scale alone does not guarantee compatibility. A heavy vehicle with large tires and aggressive gearing may place more load on the ESC than a lighter vehicle of the same stated scale.
Three Programming Methods
The ESC supports three convenient programming methods:
Complete throttle calibration, factory reset and parameter adjustment without a separate program box.
Provides a quick way to view and change common ESC settings at the workbench.
Offers a larger display for reviewing and changing compatible parameters.
Independent Programming Port
The independent programming port allows a compatible LED Program Box or LCD Program Box Pro to be connected without unplugging the ESC throttle cable from the receiver.
This makes repeated setup changes more convenient because the receiver wiring can remain installed while the program box is connected directly to the separate port.
Optional External Fan Support
The same independent port can also power a compatible external fan when additional airflow is needed around the ESC or nearby electronics.
The recommended fan format is a framed 20 × 20 × 8mm unit rated for 6-7.4V operation and powered by the ESC BEC. The fan is not included.
Important: the port is used for either the program box or the external fan. Remove the fan before connecting a program box, and confirm connector polarity before powering the ESC.
Adjustable ESC Parameters
Available settings include:
- Running mode
- Low-voltage cutoff
- Punch level
- Drag brake force
- Maximum brake force
- Maximum reverse force
- Neutral range
- Motor timing
- LiPo cell count
- BEC output voltage
Available Running Modes
| Mode | Operation | Typical Use |
|---|---|---|
| Forward with Brake | Forward and proportional braking only | Racing or applications where reverse is not required |
| Forward/Reverse with Brake | Brake is applied before reverse engages | General bashing and everyday RC driving |
| Forward with Reverse | Reverse responds directly when commanded | Special vehicle setups requiring direct reverse response |
Throttle Calibration and Protection Status
Throttle range calibration should be completed before the first use of the ESC and whenever the transmitter or receiver is replaced. Calibration stores the neutral, full-throttle and full-brake positions.
The ESC LEDs indicate operating and protection conditions:
- A repeating red flash indicates low-voltage protection.
- A repeating single green flash indicates ESC overheat protection.
- Three repeating green flashes indicate overcurrent protection.
- Five repeating green flashes indicate capacitor overheat protection.
If protection is triggered, stop the vehicle and check battery voltage, gearing, motor load, drivetrain resistance and system temperature before continuing.
