Quick Fit Check

The CNHL Lightning LiHV 8500mAh 22.8V 6S 120C HV LiPo Battery with QS8 Plug is a high-capacity 6S battery for large EDF jets, high-power RC aircraft and custom electric systems that can accommodate its substantial capacity, approximately 988g weight and high-current QS8 connection.

The QS8 plug and 8AWG wiring are important parts of this battery's positioning. This is not intended as a universal replacement for typical XT60, XT90 or EC5 6S batteries; it is best suited to models already designed around QS8 or professionally configured for a QS8 high-current power system.

Because this is a 6S LiHV battery, a full LiHV charge reaches 26.1V. Confirm the ESC's actual maximum input voltage before charging above the standard 25.2V 6S LiPo limit.

8500mAh High-Capacity Power for Large 6S Aircraft

The CNHL Lightning 8500mAh 6S LiHV is aimed at large electric aircraft where a conventional 5000–6000mAh battery does not provide enough energy reserve and the airframe can safely accommodate a nearly 1kg pack.

The 8500mAh capacity makes this an endurance-oriented battery, while the QS8 connector and 8AWG wiring position it toward demanding high-current installations rather than ordinary sport-aircraft setups.

Why Choose This Battery?

  • 8500mAh capacity: Large energy reserve for demanding 6S applications.
  • 193.8Wh nominal energy: Substantial stored energy for long-duration high-power use.
  • 120C continuous rating: Designed for demanding power systems.
  • QS8 connector: Suited to purpose-built high-current RC installations.
  • 8AWG wiring: Complements the battery's high-power positioning.
  • LiHV chemistry: Supports up to 26.1V full charge when the complete system is rated for it.
  • Dual-pack capability: Two matching packs can support purpose-built 12S systems.

QS8 Connector for High-Current RC Power Systems

The QS8 connector is a key part of this battery's intended use. Combined with 8AWG wiring, it makes the pack particularly relevant to large aircraft and custom high-current power systems already built around QS8.

Models equipped with EC5, IC5, XT90 or XT60 do not connect directly to this battery. Use only a correctly rated adapter or professionally completed connector conversion suitable for the current and voltage of the complete system.

Large EDF Jet and High-Power Aircraft Applications

This 8500mAh 6S pack is most relevant to large EDF jets, large electric fixed-wing aircraft and custom high-power aviation builds that can accommodate its 150 × 51.5 × 64mm dimensions and approximately 988g weight.

For aircraft use, battery selection must include final CG, total takeoff weight, battery retention, cooling and connector compatibility rather than capacity alone.

Matched Dual-6S Battery Option for 12S Aircraft

Two matching CNHL Lightning 8500mAh 6S LiHV packs can be connected in series for a purpose-built 12S 8500mAh system. Series connection doubles voltage while capacity remains 8500mAh.

A matched pair reaches 45.6V nominal and up to 52.2V when fully charged in LiHV mode. Combined battery weight is approximately 1976g before additional wiring, so both electrical compatibility and airframe weight limits must be verified carefully.

LiHV Charging and Maximum Voltage

This is a 6S LiHV battery. A full LiHV charge reaches 4.35V per cell, or 26.1V total.

A standard 6S LiPo reaches 4.20V per cell, or 25.2V total. Do not assume full LiHV compatibility simply because an ESC is described as 6S-compatible.

If full LiHV voltage support has not been confirmed, this battery can be balance charged to the standard LiPo limit of 25.2V / 4.20V per cell.

For routine charging, a balanced 1C rate is preferred. 5C is the stated maximum, not the everyday target.

FAQ

Why does this battery use QS8 instead of XT90 or EC5?

The QS8 connector and 8AWG wiring position this pack for high-current RC power systems. It should be matched to an appropriately rated QS8 installation rather than treated as a universal 6S battery.

Can two packs be used for 12S?

Yes. Two matching 6S packs connected in series create a 12S 8500mAh system. Capacity remains 8500mAh.

What is the full voltage of a 12S LiHV pair?

Two fully charged 6S LiHV packs reach 52.2V in series. The ESC and complete electrical system must support that maximum voltage.

Can I charge this battery only to 25.2V?

Yes. A LiHV battery can be balance charged to the standard 6S LiPo limit of 25.2V when full 26.1V LiHV voltage is not required or has not been confirmed for the electronics.

Does 120C mean the system always draws extremely high current?

No. 120C is the battery's stated continuous discharge rating. Actual current is determined by the motor, ESC, EDF or propeller system, throttle use and operating conditions.

Should this battery always be charged at 5C?

No. For routine charging, a balanced 1C rate is preferred. 5C is the stated maximum, not the everyday target.

Notice

  • This is a 6S LiHV battery with a maximum charge voltage of 4.35V per cell.
  • Confirm the ESC supports the full 26.1V LiHV voltage before charging above the standard 25.2V LiPo limit.
  • Confirm the 149.8 × 51.2 × 63.8mm dimensions, approximately 988g weight and QS8 connector before use.
  • QS8 is not directly interchangeable with XT60, XT90, EC5 or IC5.
  • Voltage and connector alone do not establish compatibility; battery dimensions, weight, retention, CG and complete system requirements must also match.
  • For 12S use, use two matching batteries of the same model, age, condition and state of charge.
  • Two fully charged 6S LiHV packs can reach 52.2V when connected in series.
  • Use only wiring, connectors and series harnesses appropriately rated for the complete power system.
  • For aircraft use, verify final center of gravity and total takeoff weight after battery installation.
  • Secure the battery firmly and keep power and balance wiring clear of propellers, EDF units, gears and sharp edges.
  • Never charge unattended, and do not use a swollen, punctured, damaged or overheated battery.
  • Allow the pack to cool before recharging and use storage mode when it will not be used for an extended period.
