The Hobbywing EZRUN MAX5 HV Plus G2 is a flagship high-voltage sensored brushless ESC developed for extreme-speed and large-scale RC power systems. Supporting 6-12S LiPo, the MAX5 HV Plus G2 combines very high current capability with full sensored operation, built-in Bluetooth, onboard data logging, adjustable Turbo Timing, intelligent freewheeling and a high-output BEC.
Its primary applications include 1/7 and 1/8 extreme-speed cars together with 1/5 trucks and monster trucks used for extreme bashing. This is not simply a larger general-purpose ESC: motor RPM capability, gearing, tire speed, drivetrain strength and battery current capability become critical parts of the system at this power level.
Before installation, verify ESC mounting space, battery voltage, motor voltage rating, motor KV, maximum motor RPM, pole count, gearing, tire diameter, tire RPM rating, drivetrain strength, battery discharge capability, connectors and cooling. Hobbywing specifically warns that this ESC is intended for unusually high motor speeds, so motor mechanical RPM capability must be confirmed rather than selecting a motor by KV alone.

Motor KV figures are recommended values for conventional applications. They must be considered together with the motor's supported RPM and the actual load of the complete vehicle.
The MAX5 HV Plus G2 is designed for applications where conventional large-scale ESC performance is no longer enough. In addition to its official 350A / 2000A specification, Hobbywing's product material publishes voltage-specific continuous-current capability of up to 500A on 8S and 330A on 12S.
These figures should not be interpreted as a continuous target for every installation. Battery internal resistance, connectors, motor load, wiring, gearing and cooling determine what the complete system can safely sustain.
The MAX5 HV Plus G2 is supplied with AS150 anti-spark battery connectors on its heavy 8AWG input wiring. This is especially useful with a 6-12S ESC carrying a large internal capacitor bank because connection current can otherwise create a strong electrical arc.
Anti-spark connectors help reduce connector arcing and wear, but correct polarity and appropriate connector current capacity remain essential.
For everyday setup, the MAX5 HV Plus G2 has Bluetooth integrated directly into the electronic switch. This allows a smartphone running HW LINK V2 to connect without adding another wireless module.
Provided MAX5 HV Plus G2 product material also identifies an independent programming port for supported external Hobbywing programmers, giving builders a second programming path when a wired programmer is preferred.
| Built-In Bluetooth / HW LINK V2 | Supported |
| LED Program Box | Not Supported |
| LCD Program Box G2 | Supported – Legacy / Discontinued |
| LCD Program Box Pro | Supported |
| OTA Programmer | Supported through Independent Programming Port |
| WiFi Express | Not Supported |
Because Bluetooth is already built in, an OTA Programmer is not required simply to use the mobile app.
The MAX5 HV Plus G2 integrates a high-capacity 4080μF capacitor bank into the ESC itself, reducing the need for a separate external capacitor module in its intended high-power applications.
The ESC also includes dedicated capacitor overheat protection. If capacitor thermal protection is triggered, investigate gearing, system load, battery condition and cooling rather than repeatedly restarting the ESC without correcting the cause.
Turbo Timing can add electronic timing at full throttle to increase motor RPM and top-end speed. The MAX5 HV Plus G2 supports up to 24° Turbo Timing.
With the intended Hobbywing EZRUN 5690 / 56118 SD G2 sensored motor system, product material states a maximum-speed increase of approximately up to 18%.
Turbo Timing is not free power. Increasing timing raises motor RPM, current and temperature. The supplied product material also states that the Turbo function is intended for compatible Hobbywing matching motors and cannot simply be assumed to operate with every third-party motor.
Turbo Delay controls how long full throttle must be held before Turbo Timing activates. This makes it possible to separate launch behavior from additional top-end timing.
One of the defining characteristics of the MAX5 HV Plus G2 is support for unusually high motor rotational speed. Product material specifies up to 300,000 RPM with a 2-pole motor reference.
Maximum supported RPM decreases as motor pole count increases. Using Hobbywing's stated relationship:
These are ESC-side references. The motor itself, bearings, rotor, fan and mechanical assembly must also be rated for the intended rotational speed.
The built-in switch-mode BEC supplies 8A continuous current and supports selectable 6V, 7.4V or 8.4V output.
MAX5 HV Plus G2 product material additionally advertises maximum BEC output of up to 28A, providing short-duration headroom for demanding large-scale high-torque servos.
Always confirm that the receiver, steering servo and every receiver-powered accessory support the selected voltage. Do not apply 7.4V or 8.4V to equipment rated only for 6V.
The MAX5 HV Plus G2 throttle lead supplies BEC voltage to the receiver. Do not connect another receiver power supply while the ESC BEC output remains connected.
If an external BEC or separate receiver battery is required, isolate the ESC's red BEC wire from the receiver connection before applying the second power source.
The MAX5 HV Plus G2 uses an IP67-rated enclosure and waterproof-oriented sensor interface to better handle dust, water, mud, snow and other demanding RC environments.
IP67 protection is not permanent. Sealing can deteriorate with age and use, and the ESC should not be left submerged for prolonged periods. After wet or dirty running, clean, dry and inspect the power system before the next session.
The MAX5 HV Plus G2 includes an onboard data-recording module capable of storing approximately 10 minutes of recent operating data.
Through HW LINK V2, users can access:
The Bluetooth connection is intended for short-range setup and data access. Product material notes an effective Bluetooth distance of approximately 5m under suitable conditions.
Bluetooth is integrated into the electronic power switch, allowing the MAX5 HV Plus G2 to connect directly to a compatible smartphone without requiring an additional wireless module.
Using HW LINK V2, the driver can:
The factory Bluetooth device name uses the HW_BLE**** format and the default password is 888888.
The MAX5 HV Plus G2 incorporates intelligent freewheeling technology to improve electrical efficiency under changing throttle conditions and reduce unnecessary heat generation.
Lower electrical loss can help control ESC temperature and improve system stability, but final operating temperature still depends on gearing, vehicle weight, battery voltage, motor efficiency, airflow and driving style.
The MAX5 HV Plus G2 provides thirteen programmable parameters:
The MAX5 HV Plus G2 adds a programmable ESC Thermal Protection setting. When enabled, the ESC reduces power after reaching the protection threshold and can shut down output after approximately 40 seconds if the overheating condition continues.
Disabling thermal protection removes this safeguard. Operating an extreme-power system without thermal protection should only be considered when the consequences are fully understood.
Punch adjusts overall acceleration response. Higher values produce a more aggressive launch, while lower settings can help control wheelspin, drivetrain shock and motor hesitation on lower-traction surfaces.
The operating range for the MAX5 HV Plus G2 is 6-12S LiPo. Set the LiPo cell count according to the actual battery configuration, especially when automatic recognition may not reliably identify the pack state.
The shared EZRUN parameter table contains settings used across MAX8 G2S, MAX6 G2 and MAX5 HV Plus G2, but the MAX5 HV Plus G2 operating range remains 6-12S.
The MAX5 HV Plus G2 supports both sensored and sensorless brushless motors.
When using a sensored motor, ESC phases A, B and C must connect to the matching A, B and C motor phases, and the sensor cable must be installed correctly. If the sensor cable is disconnected, a sensored motor will operate in sensorless mode.
With a sensorless motor, fixed phase sequencing is not required; swap any two motor wires if rotation is incorrect.
Hobbywing provides the following conventional motor references:
The manual specifically warns that these KV values are only recommended application references. Because the MAX5 HV Plus G2 is designed for very high motor RPM, motor selection should also consider:
Motor overheat protection is motor-dependent. The manual states that motor thermal protection works only with supported Hobbywing motors capable of supplying the required temperature information. With an unsupported motor, do not assume that motor thermal protection remains active.
Throttle calibration must be completed on first installation and repeated after changing the transmitter, receiver or relevant throttle-channel settings.
Calibrate:
Because this ESC can control an extremely powerful drive system, keep the driven wheels clear of the ground during setup and calibration. Removing the motor pinion is preferable where practical.
Yes. It supports 6-12S LiPo.
The current official user manual lists 350A / 2000A in the main specification table. Separate Hobbywing product material publishes voltage-specific maximum continuous output of up to 500A at 8S and 330A at 12S.

Turbo Timing can be adjusted up to 24°. Increasing Turbo Timing increases motor RPM, current draw and temperature.
Product material specifies approximately 10 minutes of onboard historical operating data, together with peak records and real-time data access through HW LINK V2.
The MAX5 HV Plus G2 includes a large 4080μF internal capacitor bank designed to eliminate the need for a separate external capacitor module in its intended applications.
The ESC uses factory-installed AS150 anti-spark connectors on its 8AWG input wiring.
No. KV ≤1600 is only a conventional 12S reference. Motor voltage rating, pole count, maximum mechanical RPM, gearing, thermal capacity and vehicle load must also be confirmed.
No. Hobbywing positions it for 1/5 truck and monster-truck extreme bashing as well as 1/7 and 1/8 extreme-speed applications, but physical fit and the complete power-system requirements still need to be checked for each vehicle.
