The Hobbywing QuicRun WP-1625 Brushed ESC is a compact 25A electronic speed controller designed for small-scale brushed RC vehicles. With support for 2S–3S LiPo batteries, 280/370/380-size brushed motors, waterproof and dust-resistant construction, automatic throttle calibration and simple jumper-based setup, it provides a straightforward power solution for many 1/16 and 1/18 touring cars, buggies, monster trucks and truggies.

Unlike the larger QuicRun crawler ESCs and Fusion brushless systems, the WP-1625 focuses on simplicity. There is no programming box, cooling fan or complicated menu system to configure. Connect the motor and battery correctly, calibrate the throttle, select the battery type with the jumper and the system is ready to run.

Wide Application for 1/16 and 1/18 RC Cars

The QuicRun WP-1625 is designed around compact brushed vehicle platforms rather than one specific chassis. Its small 34 × 24 × 14mm body makes it suitable for a wide range of 1/18 and 1/16 touring cars, buggies, monster trucks and truggies where chassis space and wiring room are limited.

Hobbywing QuicRun WP-1625 brushed ESC applications for 1/16 and 1/18 touring cars buggies and monster trucks

Before installation, check the vehicle's motor size, motor RPM, battery voltage, available ESC space and connector type rather than assuming compatibility based only on vehicle scale.

Simple Setup for Small-Scale Brushed RC Builds

One of the strongest reasons to choose the QuicRun 1625 is its uncomplicated setup. The ESC automatically calibrates its throttle range during startup, while battery-type configuration is handled through the onboard jumper system. There is no separate programming card or software connection required.

Hobbywing QuicRun WP-1625 brushed ESC with automatic throttle calibration and simple jumper setup

For initial setup, switch on the transmitter first and place the throttle trim at neutral. After powering the ESC, keep the throttle at neutral and allow approximately three seconds for automatic throttle-range calibration. A successful calibration is confirmed by the ESC's startup tone.

Compact 34 × 24 × 14mm ESC

The WP-1625 combines its control electronics and capacitor module into a very small enclosure. Measuring just 34 × 24 × 14mm, it is particularly useful in compact chassis where a full-size 1/10 ESC would consume unnecessary space or make wiring difficult.

The ESC operates without a cooling fan, which further reduces its footprint and eliminates additional fan wiring.

High Reliability and Multiple Protection Functions

Despite its compact size, the QuicRun 1625 incorporates several protection functions intended to protect the ESC and vehicle power system during normal use:

  • Low-voltage cutoff protection for the drive battery
  • Overheat protection
  • Throttle signal loss protection

For LiPo operation, low-voltage protection progressively reduces motor output before shutting the system down when battery voltage becomes too low. The ESC also reduces output if internal temperature exceeds its protection threshold.

Waterproof and Dustproof for Changing Conditions

The QuicRun WP-1625 uses Hobbywing's waterproof and dustproof construction for operation in changing outdoor conditions. That makes it particularly useful for small-scale buggies and monster trucks that may encounter damp tracks, dirt, mud or wet grass.

Waterproof does not mean maintenance-free. After running in wet or dirty conditions, clean and dry the vehicle and connectors before storage. Avoid treating waterproof protection as permission for unnecessary prolonged immersion.

280, 370 and 380 Brushed Motor Compatibility

The QuicRun 1625 is designed for commonly used 280, 370 and 380-size brushed motors, but battery voltage and motor RPM must be considered together.

2S LiPo / 6-Cell NiMH 280 / 370 / 380 motor, RPM < 30,000 @ 7.2V
3S LiPo / 9-Cell NiMH 280 / 370 / 380 motor, RPM < 20,000 @ 7.2V

This distinction matters. A brushed motor that is acceptable on 2S is not automatically suitable for 3S operation. When voltage increases, choose a sufficiently low-RPM motor and use a reasonable gear ratio to avoid excessive current draw, heat or drivetrain load.

Forward, Reverse and Brake Control

The WP-1625 uses a dedicated Forward / Reverse / Brake running mode. When reverse is requested while the vehicle is still moving forward, the ESC first applies braking; reverse becomes available after the vehicle has slowed appropriately.

This makes the controller practical for recreational touring cars, buggies, monster trucks and truggies where both braking and reversing are required.

Easy Operation for Beginners and Everyday RC Builds

Automatic throttle calibration, jumper-based battery selection and a fixed driving mode make the WP-1625 particularly straightforward to configure. For users building or repairing a compact brushed RC car, this eliminates much of the programming complexity associated with more advanced brushless systems.

Battery and Connector Compatibility

The ESC supports 2S–3S LiPo batteries and uses a small Tamiya battery connector as standard. Always confirm the connector installed on your battery before ordering. If your battery uses another connector, a correctly rated adapter or connector conversion may be required.

Because the WP-1625 is designed for compact RC platforms, battery choice should also consider the vehicle's battery tray dimensions, connector position and motor RPM limit rather than voltage alone.

FAQ

Is the Hobbywing QuicRun 1625 a brushed or brushless ESC?

It is a brushed ESC. It is intended for compatible 280, 370 and 380-size brushed motors and should not be used to drive a brushless motor.

Can the QuicRun 1625 run on 3S LiPo?

Yes. It supports 2S and 3S LiPo batteries. However, Hobbywing specifies a lower motor-speed limit for 3S operation: compatible 280, 370 or 380-size motors should remain below 20,000 RPM @ 7.2V.

What motor can I use with the QuicRun WP-1625?

For 2S LiPo or 6-cell NiMH, Hobbywing specifies 280, 370 or 380-size brushed motors below 30,000 RPM @ 7.2V. For 3S LiPo or 9-cell NiMH, the limit is below 20,000 RPM @ 7.2V.

Is the Hobbywing 1625 waterproof?

The ESC is designed with waterproof and dustproof protection for outdoor RC use. It can handle typical wet and dirty driving conditions, but the vehicle should still be cleaned and dried after exposure to water, mud or debris.

Does the QuicRun 1625 need a programming card?

No. The WP-1625 does not use Hobbywing LED or LCD programming boxes. Its basic settings are handled through the onboard jumper system, while throttle-range calibration is automatic.

Can I change the running mode?

No. Although other ESCs in the older QuicRun brushed family offer multiple running modes, the WP-1625 specifically uses Forward / Reverse / Brake only.

What BEC does the QuicRun 1625 use?

The WP-1625 uses a 5V/1A linear BEC to supply the receiver and compatible steering servo.

What size RC cars is the QuicRun 1625 designed for?

Its primary applications are 1/16 and 1/18 touring cars, buggies, monster trucks and truggies. Actual compatibility still depends on motor specification, battery voltage, gearing, dimensions and connectors.
