Quick Fit Check

The CNHL Lightning LiHV 7200mAh 22.8V 6S 120C HV LiPo Battery with EC5 Plug combines 7200mAh of rated capacity with an unusually compact and lightweight 6S format for large EDF jets, RC airplanes and other high-power applications.

At approximately 800g and 149 × 52 × 50mm (L × W × H), this pack remains close to the size and weight class of many conventional 6000mAh 6S batteries while providing 20% more rated capacity.

This makes the battery especially attractive to aircraft where more energy reserve is useful but excessive battery size or weight would make CG, takeoff weight or installation more difficult. It is also a confirmed-fit option for the Freewing F-35C Lightning II 110mm EDF and has proven to fit well in the FMS J-11 Twin 70mm EDF.

7200mAh Capacity in a 6000mAh-Class Size and Weight Range

The main advantage of this CNHL Lightning 7200mAh 6S LiHV battery is not simply its capacity. Its strength comes from placing 7200mAh into a pack that remains close to the size and weight class of many conventional 6000mAh 6S batteries.

Moving from 6000mAh to 7200mAh adds 1200mAh, or 20% more rated capacity. That gives pilots additional stored energy without automatically moving into the larger and heavier battery format often associated with conventional 7000mAh-plus packs.

Actual flight-time improvement will depend on aircraft weight, throttle use, EDF efficiency, drag and flying style. The additional 20% rated capacity should not be interpreted as a guaranteed 20% increase in flight time.

Why Choose This Battery?

  • 7200mAh capacity: 20% more rated capacity than a 6000mAh pack.
  • Approx. 800g weight: Keeps this high-capacity pack within a practical range for many large EDF aircraft.
  • 149mm length: Compact for a 7200mAh 6S battery.
  • 120C continuous rating: Designed for demanding high-current power systems.
  • 10AWG wiring: Appropriate for high-current 6S and paired 12S installations.
  • EC5 connector: Suitable for large RC aircraft and physically compatible with IC5 main power connections.
  • LiHV chemistry: Supports up to 26.1V full charge when the complete power system is rated for it.

Freewing F-35C 110mm EDF Battery Option

The CNHL Lightning LiHV 7200mAh 6S 120C with EC5 is a confirmed-fit battery option for the Freewing F-35C Lightning II 110mm EDF.

The aircraft uses two matching 6S batteries together as a 12S power system. A pair of these 7200mAh batteries creates a 12S 7200mAh LiHV setup with approximately 1600g combined battery weight before series wiring is included.

This setup is particularly attractive to F-35C pilots who want more capacity than the conventional 5000–6000mAh 6S class without moving to an excessively large battery pair.

The F-35C power system supports LiHV operation, so these packs can be used as a true high-voltage 12S setup when charged correctly in LiHV mode.

F-35C Setup Battery Arrangement Nominal Voltage Full LiHV Voltage Capacity
12S LiHV 2 × matching 6S 7200mAh packs in series 45.6V 52.2V 7200mAh

After installing both packs, position them as required to achieve the specified 133–140mm CG range. Battery-tray position should be treated as a setup variable rather than assuming one fixed location for every pack size.

Compare this pack with other confirmed-fit choices in the LiPo and LiHV Batteries for the Freewing F-35C 110mm EDF collection.

7200mAh 6S Battery for the FMS J-11 Twin 70mm EDF

The CNHL Lightning 7200mAh 6S LiHV is also a strong high-capacity fit for the FMS J-11 Twin 70mm EDF Jet.

Its 149 × 52 × 50mm dimensions and approximately 800g weight allow the aircraft to use 7200mAh of rated capacity while remaining close to the installation class of many conventional 6000mAh packs.

The EC5 connector also suits the aircraft's EC5 power-system direction without requiring an unnecessary battery-side adapter.

For a twin-EDF model, the value of the additional capacity is not just potential flight duration. More stored energy can also provide additional reserve for go-arounds and landing approaches, although the actual usable reserve depends on throttle use and flying conditions.

Always secure the battery correctly and recheck the final center of gravity after changing battery position, external stores or other onboard equipment.

Matched 12S Battery Pair for Large EDF Jets

Two identical CNHL Lightning 7200mAh 6S batteries connected in series create a 12S 7200mAh LiHV battery system.

Series connection doubles voltage but does not double capacity. Two 6S 7200mAh batteries in series remain 7200mAh, not 14400mAh.

At full LiHV charge, two packs in series can reach 52.2V. The complete ESC and electrical system must therefore be rated for the full high-voltage input, not merely described as “12S compatible” without a verified maximum voltage.

For series operation, use two packs of the same model, age, condition and state of charge, and connect them through a correctly rated series harness.

High-Capacity 12S Option for the Black Horse P-80 Shooting Star

A matched pair of CNHL Lightning 7200mAh 6S LiHV batteries can also be considered for a properly configured Black Horse P-80 Shooting Star 120mm EDF 12S setup.

Compared with a paired 6000mAh battery setup, the 7200mAh pair provides 20% more rated capacity while the Lightning construction keeps the combined battery mass more manageable than many conventional 7200mAh alternatives.

Before use, confirm the physical placement of both packs, battery retention, correctly rated series harness, connector clearance, final CG, total takeoff weight, ESC voltage rating and cooling.

Compare suitable choices in the Black Horse P-80 Shooting Star 120mm EDF Battery Collection.

7200mAh vs. 6000mAh 6S Battery

Priority 6000mAh Class 7200mAh Lightning LiHV
Rated Capacity 6000mAh 7200mAh
Capacity Difference Baseline 20% more rated capacity
Installation Class Conventional large 6S Close to many 6000mAh-class packs
Main Priority Conventional capacity Higher energy reserve without a major size jump

EC5 and IC5 Connector Compatibility

EC5 and IC5 are physically compatible at the main positive and negative power connection. This EC5 battery can therefore provide normal main power through a corresponding IC5 device-side connector when polarity and orientation are correct.

This is a conventional CNHL battery and does not include Spektrum Smart battery electronics or Smart data communication.

If used with an IC5-equipped ESC, the main power connection can operate normally, but Smart battery identification and battery-data functions will not be available.

LiHV Charging and Maximum Voltage

This is a 6S LiHV battery. A full LiHV charge reaches 4.35V per cell, or 26.1V total.

A standard 6S LiPo reaches 4.20V per cell, or 25.2V total. A model being described as “6S compatible” does not automatically confirm that its ESC supports 26.1V.

Before using full LiHV charging, confirm the ESC manufacturer's maximum input-voltage specification.

If full LiHV support has not been confirmed, this battery can be balance charged to the standard LiPo limit of 25.2V / 4.20V per cell.

For routine charging, a balanced 1C rate is preferred. 5C is the stated maximum, not the everyday target.
