The Hobbywing EZRun MAX10 G2 80A is a compact sensored and sensorless brushless ESC built for performance-focused 1/10 scale on-road cars, buggies and light-duty short course vehicles. Rated for 2-3S LiPo, it delivers 80A continuous current and 520A peak current while combining an upgraded waterproof sensor interface, intelligent cooling, programmable Turbo Timing, smart freewheeling technology and optional OTA data monitoring.
The 80A version is the lighter-duty member of the MAX10 G2 family. It is best matched to appropriately geared 3652-size motors rather than the larger 3665/4268 combinations typically associated with the MAX10 G2 140A. For builders who want a compact sensored ESC for a fast 2S or 3S 1/10 platform without stepping into the larger 140A power class, the MAX10 G2 80A offers a strong balance of control, efficiency and tuning flexibility.

Upgraded Sensored Control for 1/10 Performance Builds
The MAX10 G2 platform uses an improved waterproof sensor-cable interface and upgraded sensored operating mode. With a correctly matched sensored motor, the ESC can deliver smoother low-speed operation, more predictable throttle response and more precise power delivery than a basic sensorless setup.
For the 80A version, the official motor sizing guidance should remain the deciding factor. Although the MAX10 G2 sensor system is used across the wider 3652/3665 SD G3 family, the 80A model is primarily specified around 3652-size motors: up to KV 6000 on 2S and KV 4200 on 3S.
Temperature-Controlled Frameless Fan
Cooling is especially important in a compact high-output 1/10 ESC. Hobbywing uses a patented frameless fan design that directs a large volume of air through and around the heatsink structure to improve heat dissipation.
The fan is also temperature controlled. It does not need to run continuously at low ESC temperatures, helping reduce unnecessary noise and power consumption. Once temperature rises to the preset operating threshold, the cooling system activates automatically.
Larger Capacitor System with Thermal Protection
Compared with the previous-generation MAX10 platform, the MAX10 G2 capacitor system was enlarged substantially. Hobbywing's MAX10 G2 material describes a 74% increase in total capacitance, helping improve power delivery from the battery to the ESC during rapid changes in load.
The capacitor system also includes overheat protection. This is particularly useful in punchy 2S and 3S builds where repeated acceleration, braking and high-current load changes can place significant stress on the input side of the ESC.
Smart Freewheeling for Higher Efficiency
Hobbywing's smart freewheeling technology is designed to improve drive efficiency and reduce heat generation during operation. In the MAX10 G2 platform, Hobbywing reports operating-temperature reductions of up to approximately 25°C compared with the previous generation under applicable conditions.
Lower operating temperature can provide more thermal headroom during longer runs and repeated acceleration cycles, but it does not replace correct gearing and motor selection. Oversized tires, excessive gearing, high ambient temperature or an over-KV motor can still overload the ESC.
Turbo Timing: Up to 20° on the 80A Version
Turbo Timing increases motor RPM when full throttle is maintained, making it most useful for applications where additional top-end speed is wanted on longer straights.
A key difference between the two MAX10 G2 versions is the available timing range. The MAX10 G2 140A supports up to 32°, while this MAX10 G2 80A supports up to 20°.
Increasing Turbo Timing also increases motor RPM, current draw and operating temperature. It should therefore be treated as a tuning tool rather than a free performance increase. Start conservatively and monitor ESC and motor temperatures after changing timing, gearing or tire size.
Real-Time Data Logging with Optional OTA Module
Unlike newer EZRun ESCs with Bluetooth integrated directly into the switch, the MAX10 G2 80A uses an optional OTA Bluetooth module for wireless app connectivity.
Once the OTA module is connected to the ESC's independent programming port and communication is established with the Hobbywing HW LINK app, users can view operating information such as throttle input, voltage, current, ESC temperature, compatible motor temperature and speed data. Historical running information can also be reviewed through the app's data logging functions.
IP67 Protection for Dirt, Splash and Wet Running Conditions
The MAX10 G2 platform uses an upgraded waterproof design and waterproof sensor interface to improve resistance to water, dust and contamination during normal RC use. The supplied MAX10 G2 material identifies the system as IP67, making it suitable for demanding outdoor environments such as wet pavement, loose dirt, mud, snow and other conditions where a basic open electronics package would be more vulnerable.
Water resistance does not mean the ESC should be deliberately submerged for extended periods. Protective performance can also decline with wear, damaged seals, connector contamination or poor installation. After wet running, clean and dry the vehicle and inspect connectors, sensor cables and wiring before storage.
6V / 7.4V 5A Switch-Mode BEC
The built-in switch-mode BEC provides selectable 6V or 7.4V output with 5A continuous current. This allows the ESC to support standard-voltage receiver and servo systems as well as compatible high-voltage servos without automatically requiring a separate external BEC.
Select BEC voltage according to the receiver and servo specifications. Do not set the BEC to 7.4V unless every device powered from the receiver bus is rated for that voltage.
Programming Options
The MAX10 G2 80A uses an independent programming port. Supported Hobbywing programming methods include the LED program card, compatible LCD G2 program box and OTA Bluetooth module.

- Check available ESC space against 53 × 39.5 × 37.2mm.
- Confirm your receiver and servo are compatible with the selected 6V or 7.4V BEC setting.
- Check gearing, tire diameter and vehicle weight before increasing Punch or Turbo Timing.
- Use correct A/B/C phase-wire order with a sensored motor and connect the sensor cable correctly.
- Allow adequate airflow around the fan and heatsink.
FAQ
Can the EZRun MAX10 G2 80A run 4S LiPo?
No. The MAX10 G2 80A is rated for 2-3S LiPo. The MAX10 G2 140A is the version in this family that supports up to 4S.
Does the MAX10 G2 80A support sensored motors?
Yes. It supports both sensored and sensorless brushless motors. When a sensored motor is installed, the ESC and motor phase wires must be connected A-to-A, B-to-B and C-to-C, and the sensor cable must also be connected correctly.
What motor should I use with the MAX10 G2 80A?
Official guidance lists up to KV 6000 on 2S and up to KV 4200 on 3S, with a 3652-size motor as the main motor-size direction.
Does the 80A version support 32° Turbo Timing?
No. The 80A version supports up to 20°. The 32° maximum applies to the MAX10 G2 140A.
Does the MAX10 G2 80A have built-in Bluetooth?
No. App-based parameter access and data monitoring require an optional OTA Bluetooth module connected to the ESC's independent programming port.
What data can I monitor with the OTA module?
Depending on the installed motor and available sensor data, the HW LINK app can display information such as throttle, RPM, ESC voltage, ESC current, ESC temperature and compatible motor temperature, as well as running-history data.
Is the MAX10 G2 80A waterproof?
The MAX10 G2 platform uses an upgraded waterproof and dust-resistant design, and the supplied product material identifies the system as IP67. It should still not be treated as an ESC intended for prolonged underwater operation.
Can I use a 3665 motor with this ESC?
The sensor system can work with compatible Hobbywing sensored motors across the MAX10 G2 family, but the official motor-limit table for the 80A version specifically points to a 3652-size motor. A high-load 3665 installation is better evaluated against the 140A version rather than assumed suitable for the 80A model.
