The Hobbywing EZRUN MINI28 is a compact 30A sensored brushless ESC developed specifically for 1/28 and 1/27 scale Mini-Z-style racing platforms. At only 22.7 × 14.2 × 11.8mm and approximately 5g without wires, it brings race-level throttle, brake and timing adjustment into chassis where both installation space and weight matter.
Designed around 2S LiPo power and 1626-size brushless motors, the MINI28 supports both sensored and sensorless operation, adjustable Boost and Turbo timing, selectable 6V/7.4V BEC output, LCD programming, OTA wireless programming and online firmware upgrades.

The MINI28 is not simply a reduced-size general-purpose car ESC. Hobbywing developed its software and hardware around the demands of 1/28 racing, where very small changes in initial throttle response, braking feel and timing can noticeably affect the car through tight technical sections and short straights.
Its small footprint makes it easier to package inside compact Mini-Z-style chassis while leaving more freedom for receiver placement, wiring and weight distribution.
With dimensions of just 22.7 × 14.2 × 11.8mm and a bare ESC weight of approximately 5g without wires, the MINI28 is built around the packaging restrictions of micro-scale competition cars.
That low installed mass is useful in a 1/28 chassis where even a few grams can influence overall balance. Its compact shape also reduces the amount of chassis space occupied by the ESC and gives builders more freedom when routing battery, motor and receiver wiring.
Despite its miniature size, the EZRUN MINI28 is rated at 30A continuous current and 80A peak current. A full-alloy heat-sink structure helps move heat away from the electronics without requiring the size and weight of a conventional fan assembly.
The result is a compact power system designed for the high RPM, repeated acceleration and braking cycles typical of indoor micro racing.
The built-in switch-mode BEC can be set to 6.0V or 7.4V with a peak output of up to 3.5A. This gives builders more flexibility when choosing between conventional and compatible high-voltage steering servos.
Always confirm the receiver and servo voltage ratings before selecting 7.4V. A higher BEC setting should only be used when every receiver-side component connected to that supply is designed for the selected voltage.
The MINI28 provides dedicated tuning directions for different classes and power requirements. A Zero Timing configuration can be used where timing assistance is restricted, while the Modified direction opens access to Boost and Turbo settings for racers who need more control over power delivery and straight-line performance.
This makes one ESC suitable for very different driving styles without turning the setup process into a generic one-profile compromise.
A major advantage of the MINI28 is the depth of its programmable controls. Rather than limiting adjustment to basic punch and brake force, the ESC allows racers to tune key parameters that directly influence how the car behaves through different sections of a track.
PWM drive frequency can be adjusted across a broad range, while Boost and Turbo controls allow experienced racers to shape how additional timing is delivered. Aggressive timing can increase motor and ESC temperature, so gearing, motor timing and operating temperature should be checked after meaningful setup changes.
The MINI28 can be configured through an optional Hobbywing OTA Programmer and the HW Link mobile app. This gives racers a convenient way to change parameters from a phone rather than removing the ESC from a tightly packaged micro chassis.
The OTA Programmer connects through the MINI28's throttle/programming connection using the required transfer lead. It can also be used for supported firmware updates.
You can also browse compatible ESC programming cards and programmers for Hobbywing ESC setup and tuning.
For a sensored setup, the A, B and C motor wires must be connected to the corresponding A, B and C phases on the motor, and the sensor cable must also be connected between the ESC and motor.
If the sensor cable is not connected, the MINI28 can still operate a compatible brushless motor in sensorless mode. With a sensorless motor, phase-wire order is not polarity-sensitive; if the motor rotates in the wrong direction, two motor wires can be exchanged or motor rotation can be adjusted where appropriate.

The MINI28 is not waterproof. Keep the ESC away from water, condensation and conductive debris, particularly in exposed micro chassis.
The MINI28 does not rely on the ESC's own SET button or a basic LED program card for advanced parameter programming. Compatible programming options include supported Hobbywing LCD programming hardware and the optional OTA Programmer.
When using the OTA Programmer, the MINI28 uses its throttle cable as the programming connection and requires the appropriate transfer cable. Firmware updates are also supported through compatible Hobbywing programming hardware.
It is designed around 1/28 and 1/27 micro racing applications and is particularly suited to Mini-Z-style builds when the chassis, motor, battery, receiver and wiring layout match the ESC requirements.
No. The published specification for the EZRUN MINI28 is 2S LiPo.
Yes. It supports sensored brushless operation. The A/B/C phase wires must be connected in the correct corresponding order, and the sensor cable must be installed for sensored operation.
Yes. The MINI28 also supports sensorless brushless operation.
The switch-mode BEC can be adjusted between 6.0V and 7.4V and is rated for up to 3.5A peak output.
Yes. The ESC includes adjustable Boost and Turbo timing functions intended for advanced racing setup. Timing changes should be tested carefully because aggressive settings can increase ESC and motor temperature.
Yes, with the optional Hobbywing OTA Programmer and HW Link app. The OTA hardware is not built into the MINI28 itself.
No. The MINI28 is not rated as waterproof.
For calibration, wiring, programmable parameters, Boost/Turbo setup, LED status codes and troubleshooting, refer to the Hobbywing EZRUN MINI28 User Manual .
Before calibration or programming, remove the motor pinion or keep the driven wheels safely off the ground. Always disconnect the battery after use. Verify battery polarity, insulate all soldered connections, and monitor ESC and motor temperatures after changing gearing, PWM frequency, Boost timing or Turbo timing.
