That compact layout matters much more in a 1/16 or 1/18 crawler than it does in a full-size 1/10 chassis. Integrating the ESC into the motor removes the need for a separate ESC mounting location and eliminates the external motor phase wires used by conventional brushless systems.

This can free valuable room for the receiver, battery, lighting electronics and scale interior while keeping wiring cleaner.

FOC Drive for Fine Low-Speed Control

The Fusion Mini16 uses Field-Oriented Control to manage motor torque smoothly at very low RPM. This is particularly useful in small crawlers, where abrupt motor response can make precise obstacle placement difficult.

FOC provides progressive throttle response and strong usable torque at low speed, helping the vehicle approach rocks, ledges and technical obstacles with finer control than a power system designed primarily around higher RPM operation.

The system also operates quietly and efficiently, helping reduce unnecessary heat and motor noise during low-speed crawling.

Smart Torque Output and Closed-Loop RPM Matching

In Forward and Reverse RPM Matching mode, the Fusion Mini16 uses closed-loop speed control to compensate for changing terrain resistance.

When the crawler meets additional resistance while climbing, the system automatically increases torque output to keep vehicle speed closer to the driver's throttle command.

During descents, the controller can reduce torque output and stabilize vehicle speed, giving the Mini16 a controlled slow-descent behavior instead of allowing terrain alone to dictate its speed.

This automatic speed compensation applies only to RPM Matching mode. In either Normal mode, vehicle speed changes naturally as drivetrain load and terrain resistance change.

Three Selectable Running Modes

The Fusion Mini16 offers three running modes for different crawler driving preferences:

Real-Time Drag Brake Adjustment from Your Transmitter

The Mini16's yellow signal cable has two functions. It serves as the programming signal cable when using a program box, and it can also be connected to an unused AUX channel on a compatible receiver.

When connected as an AUX control, Drag Brake Force can be adjusted in real time from a transmitter knob or switch. This lets the driver change hill-holding behavior without stopping to connect a programming box.

The highest AUX signal corresponds to the programmed drag brake setting, while reducing the signal progressively reduces drag brake force down to zero at the lowest signal position.

Adjustable Drag Brake Force and Rate

The Fusion Mini16 gives crawler drivers separate control over how much drag brake is applied and how quickly that braking force builds.

  • Drag Brake Force: Disabled + Levels 1-8
  • Drag Brake Rate: Auto + Levels 1-9

Drag Brake Force determines the final holding force at neutral throttle. Drag Brake Rate determines how aggressively that force is introduced.

The Auto Drag Brake Rate setting can adjust brake application according to current draw. This helps prevent excessively abrupt braking at higher load while retaining fine control at lower speeds.

2-3S LiPo Support

The QUICRUN Fusion Mini16 supports 2S and 3S LiPo batteries as well as 6-9 cell NiMH packs.

LiPo cell count can be automatically detected or manually selected. If the same cell count is used consistently, manual selection can reduce the risk of an incorrectly discharged battery being misidentified.

6V / 7.4V Adjustable 4A BEC

The built-in switch-mode BEC provides 4A continuous current and selectable 6V or 7.4V output for receiver-side electronics.

6V is appropriate for conventional servos and receivers designed for standard voltage operation, while 7.4V can be selected for compatible high-voltage receiver and servo systems.

Always confirm the maximum operating voltage of the receiver, steering servo and every other device connected to the receiver power bus before selecting 7.4V.

IP65 Protection for Real Trail Conditions

The complete Fusion Mini16 system carries an IP65 protection rating, providing resistance to water and dust during normal crawler use.

IP65 is not the same as IP67. The Mini16 should not be described or treated as a system intended for immersion. Avoid prolonged or unnecessary water exposure, and clean and dry the vehicle after wet or muddy use.

Programmable Low-Voltage Protection

The low-voltage cutoff system monitors LiPo battery voltage and progressively reduces motor output when the selected threshold is reached.

  • Low: 3.0V per cell
  • Medium: 3.25V per cell
  • High: 3.5V per cell

When low-voltage protection is triggered, motor output is reduced to approximately 50% before eventually being disabled.

Low-voltage protection may be disabled for applications such as NiMH batteries, but it should normally remain enabled when using LiPo packs.

For larger applications, Hobbywing's promotional fitment guidance specifies lightweight single-speed models around 1/14, 1/12 and selected 1/10 scale applications with vehicle weight and drivetrain-ratio limitations.

These should therefore be treated as conditional applications rather than universal 1/10 compatibility. For normal purchasing guidance, 1/16 and 1/18 crawlers remain the primary fitment category.

Multiple Motor Mounting Patterns

The Mini16 motor face provides several mounting-hole patterns to support compact crawler chassis:

The motor contains four M2.5 and two M3 mounting holes, with a maximum mounting-hole depth of 4mm. Always verify screw length before installation because screws that extend too far can damage the motor internally.

Hobbywing also shows an optional motor conversion plate for chassis using a 25.4mm motor mounting pattern. The conversion plate is an optional accessory and should not be assumed to be included with the Fusion Mini16.

Multiple Protection Functions

The Fusion Mini16 includes several protection functions for crawler operation:

Receiver Power and External BEC Warning

The red wire in the throttle cable supplies internal BEC power to the receiver and steering servo.

Do not simultaneously power the receiver bus from another BEC or receiver battery while leaving the Fusion Mini16's internal BEC connected.

If an independent receiver power source is required, unpin or disconnect the red wire from the Fusion Mini16 throttle cable and insulate it securely before applying external receiver power.

Throttle Calibration

Throttle calibration should be completed before first use and whenever the transmitter, receiver or throttle-channel settings are changed.

The calibration procedure records three throttle positions:

  • Neutral
  • Full forward
  • Full reverse

For safety, remove the pinion gear or otherwise separate the drivetrain from load while calibrating the power system.

Automatic Motor Pairing

If the Mini16 experiences severe impact, abnormal heating, abnormal power output or unusual startup behavior, Hobbywing provides an optional motor-pairing procedure.

The motor should be separated from the gearbox before pairing. Unlike some larger Fusion systems, the Mini16 motor does not rotate during its automatic pairing procedure, but it should still remain unloaded as specified by the manual.

Important Notice

  • Disconnect the battery after every use. The system continues to draw a small amount of power even when switched off.
