The Hobbywing XRotor PRO 40A ESC Dual Pack is a purpose-built 3–6S brushless ESC solution for multirotors, including 550/650-class quadcopter applications. Each package contains two XRotor PRO 40A ESCs, with each ESC rated for 40A continuous current and 60A peak current.

Two versions are available. Version A (SKU 30902042) uses conventional motor output wires, while Version B / COB (SKU 30902041) uses gold-plated motor connectors mounted directly to the ESC circuit board. Both versions feature Hobbywing's DEO driving-efficiency technology, rapid throttle response, automatic timing adjustment and a dedicated multirotor control program.

Version A vs Version B (COB)

The two XRotor PRO 40A versions share the same basic electrical rating and 3–6S multirotor application, but use different motor-connection layouts.

Feature Version A – 30902042 Version B / COB – 30902041
ESCs per Pack 2 2
Motor Connection Wire leaded Connector On Board (COB)
Motor Output Wires Yes No
Continuous / Peak 40A / 60A 40A / 60A
LiPo 3–6S 3–6S
Size 66 × 21.8 × 11mm 73.5 × 21.8 × 11mm
Weight Approx. 50g Approx. 45g

Version A is the conventional wire-leaded configuration. It provides motor output wires from the ESC, making it suitable for installations where the wiring layout needs more flexibility.

Version B (COB – Connector On Board) removes the motor output leads and instead uses gold-plated connectors mounted directly on the ESC circuit board. This creates a different installation layout and can reduce unnecessary motor-side wiring where the airframe and motor arrangement suit the COB configuration.

Important: Version A and Version B are not simply different cosmetic versions. Check your motor wiring layout, available mounting space and preferred motor connection arrangement before selecting a variant.

Open Cooling Fin for Better Heat Dissipation

Hobbywing XRotor Pro 40A ESC open cooling fin aluminum heatsink for better heat dissipation

The XRotor PRO 40A uses an aluminum finned heatsink combined with a heat-conductive slotted structure. The open-fin design increases the available heat-dissipation area and helps move heat away from the ESC during demanding multirotor operation.

DEO Driving Efficiency Optimization

Hobbywing XRotor Pro 40A ESC DEO driving efficiency optimization for lower temperature and smoother throttle

Hobbywing's DEO (Driving Efficiency Optimization) technology is designed to improve driving efficiency and throttle linearity while reducing ESC operating temperature.

With DEO enabled, the ESC automatically brakes the motor when throttle is reduced, allowing motor speed to fall more quickly. On a multirotor, this faster response can contribute to more precise movement and improved flight-direction stability.

Rapid Throttle Response for Multirotors

Hobbywing XRotor Pro 40A multirotor ESC special core program for rapid throttle response

A dedicated multirotor control program gives the XRotor PRO 40A rapid throttle response for situations such as hovering corrections and fast changes in motor speed.

The ESC supports throttle signal frequencies up to 621Hz, helping it work with a range of flight-control systems. Hobbywing notes that throttle signals above 500Hz are non-standard, so flight-controller configuration should always be checked before use.

Automatic Timing & Preset Parameters

Hobbywing XRotor Pro 40A ESC automatic timing adjustment and preset parameters for multirotor setup

The XRotor PRO platform uses intelligent default settings and automatic timing adjustment to simplify multirotor setup across a broad range of supported applications.

Rather than requiring extensive ESC parameter configuration, the XRotor PRO 40A keeps the user-adjustable programming focused on the DEO ON/OFF setting.

Compact Protective Design

Hobbywing XRotor Pro 40A compact slim ESC design for multirotor installation

The slim housing combines a protective plastic structure with the open heatsink design, giving the ESC a compact form for multirotor installations where electronics space and cable routing matter.

Because Version A and Version B use different output layouts and have different overall lengths, always compare the selected variant's dimensions with the available mounting area before installation.

No Built-In BEC – Receiver Power Required

The XRotor PRO 40A is an OPTO-style ESC with no built-in BEC. It therefore does not provide receiver or flight-controller power through an integrated BEC.

Your installation must use an appropriate external power supply arrangement for the receiver and related electronics. Follow the wiring arrangement specified for your flight controller, receiver and power system rather than assuming the ESC throttle lead provides receiver power.

Built-In Protection Functions

The XRotor PRO 40A includes protection functions intended to reduce the risk of damage or uncontrolled operation when abnormal conditions are detected:

  • Start-up protection: shuts down motor output if the motor cannot start normally within approximately two seconds.
  • Over-load protection: cuts output if the load suddenly rises to an abnormally high level.
  • Throttle signal loss protection: cuts output when throttle signal loss is detected for more than approximately 0.25 second.

Protection functions are not a substitute for correct component selection, installation, cooling and power-system setup.

XRotor PRO 40A Manual & Setup

Throttle-range calibration should be performed when using a new XRotor brushless ESC or changing to another transmitter. Hobbywing also recommends removing the propellers before calibration or programming for safety.

For wiring diagrams, throttle calibration, DEO programming, start-up procedures, protection functions and troubleshooting, download the Hobbywing XRotor PRO 40A & 50A ESC Manual.

What to Check Before Buying

  • Confirm that your multirotor power system is within the 3–6S LiPo input range.
  • Confirm that the expected continuous and peak motor current remain within the ESC's electrical limits.
  • Choose the correct Version A wire-leaded or Version B COB motor connection layout.
  • Check the physical ESC dimensions and available mounting space.
  • Remember that the XRotor PRO 40A has no built-in BEC.
  • Confirm your receiver / flight-controller power arrangement separately.
  • Provide adequate airflow and cooling around the ESC.
  • Check motor, connector and wiring requirements before soldering or installation.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many ESCs are included?

Two ESCs are included. Both SKU 30902042 and SKU 30902041 are XRotor PRO 40A Dual Packs containing 2 × ESCs.

What is the difference between XRotor PRO 40A Version A and Version B?

Version A uses motor output wires. Version B is the COB (Connector On Board) configuration, with gold-plated motor connectors mounted directly to the ESC circuit board and no conventional motor output leads.

Does the XRotor PRO 40A support 6S LiPo?

Yes. Hobbywing specifies the XRotor PRO 40A for 3–6S LiPo power systems.

Does the XRotor PRO 40A have a BEC?

No. The XRotor PRO 40A does not have a built-in BEC, so receiver and flight-control electronics require an appropriate separate power supply arrangement.

What is DEO technology?

DEO stands for Driving Efficiency Optimization. With DEO enabled, the ESC can actively brake the motor when throttle is reduced, helping the motor slow more quickly while improving throttle linearity, driving efficiency and ESC operating temperature.

Is the XRotor PRO 40A designed for airplanes or RC cars?

The XRotor PRO 40A is specifically developed as a multirotor ESC. Hobbywing lists 550/650-class quadcopters as its applicable multirotor class.

Can I program motor rotation for 3D flight on the XRotor PRO 40A?

The XRotor PRO 40A manual lists DEO ON/OFF as its programmable item. Motor-rotation DIP-switch control described in the same manual applies to the XRotor PRO 50A, so it should not be assumed to be a programmable function of the PRO 40A.

Package Includes

  • 2 × Hobbywing XRotor PRO 40A ESCs

The exact motor-side configuration depends on the selected Version A or Version B / COB variant.
