200A Sensored Power for Large-Scale 8S Builds

With a rated 200A continuous / 1200A peak current and support for up to 8S LiPo, the MAX6 G2 is positioned between conventional 1/8 power systems and the much larger ESCs used in full 1/5 heavy-duty installations.

It is particularly relevant to high-performance 1/6 and 1/7 builds that need strong current capacity without moving to the physical size and weight of an even larger large-scale ESC.

The MAX6 G2 supports both sensored and sensorless brushless motors. A compatible sensored motor and correct sensor connection provide full sensored operation, while the same ESC can also operate a sensorless motor when required.

Built-In Anti-Spark Design

High-voltage battery systems can produce a noticeable electrical arc when the battery is connected and the ESC capacitor bank begins charging. The MAX6 G2 incorporates built-in anti-spark circuitry intended to reduce this arcing during 6-8S battery connection.

Hobbywing EZRUN MAX6 G2 built-in anti-spark design for high-voltage 6S to 8S LiPo systems

Anti-spark circuitry can reduce connector wear and the intensity of connection sparks, but it does not replace correct polarity, proper soldering or adequately rated high-current connectors.

8A Continuous / 25A Instantaneous High-Output BEC

The MAX6 G2 includes a powerful switch-mode BEC with 8A continuous output. Output voltage can be selected between 6V, 7.4V and 8.4V, allowing the ESC to support different receiver and high-torque servo systems.

Official product material also specifies an instantaneous output capability of up to 25A, giving the receiver-side power system additional headroom for brief high-current servo demands.

Hobbywing EZRUN MAX6 G2 8A BEC with 25A instantaneous output and adjustable 6V 7.4V 8.4V voltage

Important: all devices connected to the receiver power bus must support the selected BEC voltage. Do not select 7.4V or 8.4V for a receiver, servo, light controller or accessory rated only for 6V.

Do Not Double-Power the Receiver

The throttle cable from the MAX6 G2 supplies BEC voltage to the receiver. Do not connect a second power supply to the receiver while the ESC BEC output remains connected.

If an external BEC or separate receiver battery is required, remove or isolate the red BEC wire from the ESC receiver lead before connecting the additional supply.

Up to 24° Turbo Timing

The MAX6 G2 supports adjustable Turbo Timing up to 24°. Turbo Timing adds electronic timing after full throttle is reached, allowing a properly matched sensored system to produce additional top-end motor RPM.

Hobbywing EZRUN MAX6 G2 24 degree turbo timing for 4990SD and 5690SD G2 sensored motors

When paired with the intended Hobbywing EZRUN 4990SD / 5690SD G2 sensored motor system, promotional material states that maximum speed can increase by approximately up to 20% in the appropriate setup.

This should not be treated as a guaranteed speed increase for every vehicle. Gearing, battery voltage, tire diameter, aerodynamic load and the motor itself determine the actual result.

Turbo Timing increases current draw, motor RPM and temperature. Use it progressively and monitor both ESC and motor temperatures. The supplied product material indicates that Turbo functionality is intended for the matching Hobbywing motor system rather than unsupported third-party motors.

Turbo Delay

Turbo can be configured to activate immediately when full throttle is reached or after a selected delay. This allows additional top-end timing to be separated from the initial launch phase.

IP67 Protection for All-Weather Running

The MAX6 G2 uses an IP67-rated waterproof and dustproof design together with a waterproof-oriented sensor connection, making the ESC better suited to large RC vehicles that may encounter dirt, sediment, wet surfaces, snow and splash.

Hobbywing EZRUN MAX6 G2 IP67 waterproof and dustproof ESC for all-weather RC running

IP67 protection does not mean permanent underwater use. After running in water, mud, sand or snow, clean the vehicle as appropriate, allow the ESC and connectors to dry thoroughly and inspect the system before the next run.

Intelligent Fan Start-Stop Control

The MAX6 G2 uses a temperature-controlled cooling fan rather than forcing the fan to operate continuously.

When ESC temperature is low, the fan remains off. Once the ESC reaches the preset temperature threshold and airflow is required, the fan automatically starts.

Hobbywing EZRUN MAX6 G2 intelligent cooling fan automatic start and stop system

This reduces unnecessary fan noise and power consumption while still providing active cooling when electrical and thermal load increases.

Built-In Data Recording with Graph History

The MAX6 G2 incorporates onboard data recording that can be reviewed through the HW LINK V2 mobile app.

Hobbywing EZRUN MAX6 G2 built-in data recording with real-time data and historical graph in HW LINK V2

The ESC supports:

  • Five stored extreme-value data records
  • Real-time operating data
  • Historical running data with curve graphs

This can be useful when comparing gearing, Turbo Timing, Punch settings or vehicle load because operating data can be reviewed instead of relying only on driving feel.

Built-In Bluetooth – No Separate OTA Module Required

Bluetooth is integrated directly into the MAX6 G2 electronic switch. This allows a compatible smartphone to connect directly to the ESC without installing a separate OTA module.

Through the HW LINK V2 app, the user can:

  • Adjust ESC parameters
  • View stored and real-time data
  • Review historical data graphs
  • Update ESC firmware
  • Restore ESC parameters to factory defaults

The factory Bluetooth device name follows the HW_BLE**** format and the default password is 888888.

Intelligent Freewheeling for Higher Efficiency

The MAX6 G2 uses intelligent freewheeling technology to improve drive efficiency and reduce unnecessary electrical loss during operation.

Hobbywing EZRUN MAX6 G2 intelligent freewheeling technology for higher efficiency and lower ESC temperature

The intended result is stronger overall efficiency together with reduced operating temperature under appropriate conditions. Product material compares the G2 system with the previous generation and shows approximately 15°C lower operating temperature in its referenced test conditions.

That temperature difference should not be treated as a guaranteed reduction in every vehicle. Motor efficiency, gearing, vehicle mass, ambient temperature, airflow and driving style all affect final operating temperature.

12 Adjustable ESC Parameters

The MAX6 G2 provides twelve main programmable parameters through the HW LINK V2 app:

  1. Running Mode
  2. LiPo Cells
  3. Cutoff Voltage
  4. Motor Rotation
  5. BEC Voltage
  6. Maximum Brake Force
  7. Maximum Reverse Force
  8. Punch
  9. Drag Brake Force
  10. Initial Throttle Force
  11. Turbo Timing
  12. Turbo Delay

Running Modes

  • Forward with Brake
  • Forward / Reverse with Brake
  • Forward / Reverse

Low-Voltage Cut-Off

  • Low: 2.8V/cell
  • Medium: 3.1V/cell
  • High: 3.4V/cell

Punch

Punch controls the overall motor response to throttle input. Higher settings create stronger acceleration, while lower settings can provide a softer launch on low-grip surfaces and may reduce motor hesitation when throttle is applied aggressively.

Initial Throttle Force

Initial Throttle Force controls the minimum motor force applied when throttle first opens. Lower values can help on low-traction surfaces, while higher values provide a stronger initial response when sufficient grip is available.

Important 5S and 7S LiPo Setting

The MAX6 G2 supports 3S through 8S LiPo, but automatic cell recognition does not identify 5S or 7S.

When using a 5S or 7S battery configuration, manually select the correct LiPo cell count before driving. This avoids a partially discharged pack being incorrectly identified as a different cell count.

Although 2S appears in the shared parameter table, the manual specifically states that 2S LiPo is not supported by the MAX6 G2.

Sensored Motor Wiring

When connecting a sensored brushless motor, ESC phases A, B and C must connect to the corresponding A, B and C motor phases. Incorrect phase sequencing in sensored operation may damage the system.

Connect the motor sensor cable according to the alignment mark on the sensor connection. If the sensor cable is not connected, a sensored motor can still run, but the system will operate in sensorless mode.

When a sensorless motor is used, the three phase wires do not require fixed A/B/C sequencing; two motor wires can be exchanged if rotation is incorrect.

Motor Selection for 6S and 8S

Hobbywing provides the following conventional references:

  • 6S LiPo: KV ≤2400
  • 8S LiPo: KV ≤1700 with a 4990 / 5690-size motor

These figures should not be used as standalone compatibility guarantees. Also check:

  • Motor maximum supported RPM
  • Motor voltage rating
  • Motor dimensions and thermal capacity
  • Pinion / spur ratio
  • Final-drive ratio
  • Tire diameter
  • Vehicle mass
  • Terrain and rolling resistance
  • Turbo Timing setting
  • Battery current capability
  • ESC and motor temperatures

Protection Functions

  • LiPo low-voltage protection
  • ESC overheat protection
  • Motor overheat protection with supported Hobbywing motors
  • Throttle-signal loss protection
  • Current protection
  • Capacitor overheat protection

Motor overheat protection is not available with every motor. The manual states that this protection is effective only with a supported Hobbywing motor capable of providing the required temperature information, such as the EZRUN 5690SD / 4990SD G2. With a non-matching motor, ESC overheat protection remains available but motor overheat protection does not.

Throttle Calibration

Throttle-range calibration should be completed before first use and repeated whenever the transmitter is replaced or relevant throttle settings such as trim, EPA or D/R are changed.

During calibration, establish the neutral point, full-throttle endpoint and full-brake endpoint using the electronic switch button as described in the manual.

Because a 200A large-scale brushless system can generate substantial torque, keep the driven wheels clear of the ground during setup or remove the motor pinion where practical.
