Integrated ESC and Motor for a Cleaner Crawler Layout

The Fusion SE integrates the ESC electronics into the motor assembly instead of using a conventional separate ESC and motor. This reduces the number of major components that need to be mounted inside the chassis and removes the three external motor phase wires normally required between a standalone ESC and brushless motor.

Hobbywing QUICRUN Fusion SE integrated ESC and motor design with compact 58.1mm crawler power system

The result is a simpler wiring layout that can free useful chassis space for the receiver, lighting controller, scale interior or other crawler electronics.

Its motor body measures 36mm in diameter and 58.1mm long. The compact integrated format fits many 1/10 crawler layouts, but chassis compatibility should still be checked individually rather than assuming universal fitment.

FOC Control for Smooth Low-Speed Crawling

The QUICRUN Fusion SE uses Field-Oriented Control to manage motor torque smoothly across the crawler's low-speed range. The system is particularly useful when the vehicle needs to move slowly over rocks, roots and technical obstacles without abrupt throttle response.

Hobbywing QUICRUN Fusion SE 1800KV FOC crawler motor with smooth low-speed torque control

FOC control gives the driver strong low-RPM torque and fine throttle modulation while maintaining a smooth, predictable driving feel. This makes the Fusion SE especially suited to crawling applications where precise movement is more important than maximum speed.

Quiet and Efficient Sine-Wave Drive

The sine-wave drive strategy used by the Fusion SE helps the motor operate smoothly and quietly while reducing unnecessary electrical losses and heat.

Lower operating noise is particularly noticeable during technical crawling, where the vehicle spends much of its time running at low motor RPM. Improved efficiency can also help make better use of available battery energy, although actual runtime still depends on battery capacity, gearing, vehicle weight, terrain and driving style.

RPM / Throttle Matching for Controlled Climbing and Descending

With RPM / Throttle Matching enabled, the Fusion SE uses closed-loop speed control to automatically adjust motor torque as vehicle resistance changes.

Hobbywing QUICRUN Fusion SE RPM Throttle Matching closed-loop control for crawler climbs and descents

When the crawler encounters a steeper climb or additional resistance, the system can increase torque output to keep vehicle speed closer to the driver's throttle request. On descents, the same closed-loop strategy provides a more controlled slow-downhill feel instead of allowing gravity alone to determine vehicle speed.

When RPM / Throttle Matching is disabled, the system behaves more like a conventional sensored brushless ESC: changes in terrain load can cause vehicle speed to change accordingly.

Adjustable Drag Brake for Better Hill Holding

The Fusion SE provides separate adjustment for Drag Brake Force and Drag Brake Rate, allowing the crawler's neutral-throttle braking behavior to be tuned for different terrain and driving styles.

Hobbywing QUICRUN Fusion SE adjustable drag brake force and drag brake rate for crawler hill holding

  • Drag Brake Force: Disabled plus Levels 1-8
  • Drag Brake Rate: Levels 1-9

Drag Brake Force determines the final braking force applied when the throttle returns to neutral. Drag Brake Rate controls how quickly that braking force builds.

This separation allows a crawler to use strong holding force without necessarily applying that force abruptly, which can improve stability and drivetrain feel on steep technical sections.

2-3S LiPo Support

The Hobbywing Fusion SE 1800KV supports 2S and 3S LiPo batteries as well as 6-9 cell NiMH packs.

LiPo cell count can be detected automatically or manually selected. If the same battery cell count is used consistently, manually selecting the cell count can reduce the risk of a heavily discharged 3S pack being incorrectly identified as a charged 2S pack.

Adjustable 6V / 7.4V 4A BEC

The integrated switch-mode BEC provides 4A continuous output with selectable 6V or 7.4V settings.

6V is intended for conventional receiver and servo systems, while 7.4V can be used with compatible high-voltage equipment.

Important: the 7.4V setting should only be used when the receiver, steering servo and every connected device support that voltage.

For the Fusion SE, a 3S LiPo is required when a regulated 7.4V BEC output is needed. A 2S pack does not provide sufficient voltage headroom to maintain the full 7.4V output throughout its discharge cycle.

IP67 Protection for Wet and Dusty Trails

The complete Fusion SE power system carries an IP67 protection rating, giving it strong resistance to water and dust during normal crawler use.

Hobbywing QUICRUN Fusion SE IP67 waterproof and dustproof 1/10 crawler power system

This makes the system suitable for trails involving splashes, mud, dust, snow and other demanding outdoor conditions.

IP67 protection should not be interpreted as permission for prolonged underwater operation. Protection performance can also decline over time due to aging, impact damage, worn seals or improper maintenance. Clean and dry the vehicle after wet or muddy use and inspect wiring and connectors before storage.

Nine Adjustable ESC Parameters

The Fusion SE provides nine programmable settings for basic crawler setup and tuning:

  • RPM / Throttle Matching
  • LiPo Cells
  • Cutoff Voltage
  • ESC Thermal Protection
  • Motor Rotation
  • BEC Voltage
  • Drag Brake Force
  • Drag Brake Rate
  • Max. Reverse Force

Programmable Low-Voltage Cutoff

The low-voltage protection system continuously monitors LiPo battery voltage and reduces power when the selected threshold is reached.

  • Low: 3.0V per cell
  • Medium: 3.2V per cell
  • High: 3.4V per cell

Low-voltage protection can also be disabled, but Hobbywing does not recommend disabling it when using LiPo batteries because over-discharge can permanently damage the pack.

LED Program Box Programming

The Fusion SE uses an independent programming interface integrated into the electronic switch. ESC parameters are adjusted with the Hobbywing LED Program Box.

With the system switched off, connect the programming cable between the switch's 3-pin programming interface and the LED Program Box. After powering on the system, the program box displays the available settings and values.

The LED Program Box is not included unless specifically stated in the product package.

The Fusion SE does not support the LCD Program Box G2, LCD Program Box Pro or Hobbywing OTA Programmer.

Multiple Protection Functions

Built-in protection functions help protect the Fusion SE against several common crawler power-system problems:

  • Battery low-voltage protection
  • ESC thermal / overheat protection
  • Throttle signal loss protection
  • Motor lock-up protection

LED status signals also help identify low-voltage protection, thermal protection and throttle-signal problems during troubleshooting.

Electronic Switch and Independent Programming Port

The electronic switch provides normal system power control while also housing the independent programming interface used by the LED Program Box.

Hobbywing QUICRUN Fusion SE electronic switch with independent LED Program Box programming port

Short-press the switch to power the system on and long-press it to shut the system down. The battery should still be physically disconnected after every driving session.

Receiver Power and External BEC Warning

The red wire in the Fusion SE throttle lead supplies BEC power to the receiver and steering servo. Do not simultaneously power the same receiver bus from another BEC or receiver battery while leaving this BEC connection active.

If an independent receiver power source is required, remove or disconnect the red BEC wire from the throttle lead, insulate it securely and keep it isolated before applying the second power source.

Throttle Calibration

Throttle-range calibration should be completed before first use and repeated whenever transmitter throttle settings, transmitter, receiver, TRIM, D/R or EPA settings are changed.

The calibration procedure stores three positions:

  • Neutral
  • Full forward
  • Full reverse

For safety, remove the pinion gear or otherwise ensure that the drivetrain cannot move the vehicle while performing calibration.

Automatic Motor Pairing

If the Fusion SE experiences severe impact, abnormal heating or abnormal power output, Hobbywing provides an optional automatic motor-pairing procedure.

The motor gear must be removed before pairing. Once the system enters pairing mode, the motor will rotate automatically during the matching process. Reconnect the throttle lead and confirm correct operation after pairing is complete.
