The ISDT 608AC is a modular AC/DC smart balance charger that combines convenient plug-in AC charging with significantly higher power when operated from a suitable external DC source. With the detachable AC power module installed, the 608AC provides up to 50W of charging power. Remove the power module and operate the charger from a compatible 10–30V DC source to access up to 200W of charging power and up to 8A charge current.

The 608AC supports LiPo, LiHV, LiFe and Li-ion batteries from 1S to 6S, along with NiMH and lead-acid battery programs. It also includes ISDT's Shuttle Roll control, BattGO smart battery support, a digital DC power-supply mode and a dedicated battery disposal task.

Detachable Power Supply: One Charger for AC and DC Use

The defining feature of the ISDT 608AC is its modular detachable power-supply design. Instead of permanently building the AC power supply into the same enclosure as the charger electronics, ISDT separates the two sections so the configuration can change depending on where the charger is being used.

For home or workshop charging, attach the AC power module and connect the charger to a compatible AC mains source. This creates a convenient all-in-one setup without requiring a separate external DC power supply.

For field use or higher-power charging, the charger section can operate separately from a compatible 10–30V DC source. In this configuration, maximum charging power rises from 50W on AC to 200W on DC.

The 8A charge-current rating is still limited by available charging wattage and battery voltage.

Why 50W AC and 200W DC Matter

The difference between AC and DC operation is important when selecting the 608AC for larger RC batteries.

Maximum current and maximum power work together. The charger may support up to 8A, but that does not mean 8A is available at every battery voltage or when operating from the 50W AC power module.

For example, a large 6S battery requires much more wattage to charge at the same current than a 2S battery. The 200W DC mode is therefore considerably better suited to larger-capacity 4S, 5S and 6S packs when faster charging is required.

AC mode remains useful when convenience and a simple plug-in setup are more important than maximum charging speed.

1–6S LiPo and LiHV Balance Charging

The ISDT 608AC supports LiPo and LiHV batteries from 1S through 6S, together with LiFe and Li-ion battery programs. It also supports NiMH batteries up to 16 cells and lead-acid batteries up to 12 cells.

For multi-cell lithium batteries, balance charging is strongly recommended. Connecting the battery's balance lead allows the 608AC to monitor individual cell voltages and perform balancing during the charging process.

LiPo charging: Use the LiPo program for standard LiPo batteries and do not charge standard LiPo cells above 4.20V per cell.
LiHV charging: LiHV batteries should only be charged using the dedicated LiHV program when the battery is designed for LiHV charging. The 608AC's LiHV program supports a full-charge voltage up to 4.35V per cell.

Single Shuttle Roll Control

Instead of surrounding the display with numerous small buttons, the 608AC uses ISDT's distinctive Shuttle Roll control.

The knob can be rolled to move through menus, pressed to enter or confirm a task, and held to access system settings or stop an active operation. This makes the charger practical to operate with one hand while keeping the front interface relatively clean.

BattGO Smart Battery Support

The 608AC also supports ISDT's BattGO smart battery system. When used with a compatible BattGO battery and the required smart connection, the charger can access battery information and use supported battery data to assist with task configuration.

This can reduce repetitive manual setup when working within the BattGO ecosystem.

BattGO note: A conventional battery does not gain BattGO smart-data functions simply because it uses a physically compatible power connector. Smart functions require a compatible BattGO battery and the appropriate data connection.

Adjustable Digital Power Supply Mode

The 608AC is not limited to battery charging. It can also operate as an adjustable DC power supply for suitable hobby and bench applications.

ISDT specifies the digital power-supply mode for up to 50W when powered through AC and 150W when powered from an appropriate DC source, with adjustable constant-voltage output from approximately 2–30V and constant-current adjustment from 0.2–5A.

This power-supply rating is separate from the charger's normal battery-charging specification. In normal charging mode, maximum charging power is AC 50W / DC 200W.

Charge, Storage, Discharge and Battery Disposal Tasks

The 608AC provides several battery-management tasks from its menu, including normal charging, storage preparation and discharging.

It also includes a dedicated Battery Scrap / Destroy function intended for batteries that are being permanently decommissioned. This task can discharge a battery toward 0V as part of an end-of-life battery disposal process.

Battery Scrap is not a storage mode: Never use the Battery Scrap / Destroy function on a battery that you intend to recharge or use again. For normal battery storage, use the charger's Storage task instead.

Charge Screen Shows More Than Pack Voltage

During supported balance-charging tasks, the 608AC can display individual cell voltages and cell internal-resistance information in addition to overall working parameters.

Scrolling the Shuttle Roll during operation allows the lower part of the display to move between available information screens. This gives users a clearer view of how the battery is behaving during the charging process rather than showing only charge current and elapsed time.

DC Input Protection and Power Limiting

When the 608AC is powered from an external DC source, its system settings allow the user to configure a minimum input-voltage threshold and maximum input-power limit.

The minimum input-voltage setting can help protect a battery being used as the charger's DC power source from excessive discharge. The maximum input-power setting can be matched to the capability of the external power source so the charger does not attempt to draw more power than the supply can reliably provide.

For DC operation, the official system menu provides a minimum-input-voltage setting from 10–24V and a maximum-input-power setting from 30–230W.

ISDT 608AC Calibration and Firmware Support

The 608AC system menu includes a Calibrate function for supported calibration of input voltage, output voltage and balance-port voltage. It also provides self-test and system-information functions.

A dedicated firmware-upgrade port is present on the charger. If firmware servicing is required, use firmware and update procedures specifically intended for the ISDT 608AC rather than files for the older ISDT SC-608 or another ISDT charger.

This distinction is particularly important because the ISDT 608AC and ISDT SC-608 are different charger models.
